State Patrol looking for witnesses to two Tacoma drive-by shootings, on SR 16 and I-5

The State Patrol is looking for witnesses to two drive-by shootings that happened in Tacoma early Sunday morning, one at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the other on northbound Interstate 5.

A minivan was hit about 4:15 a.m. while heading east on state Route 16 between the bridge and North Jackson Avenue, according to the State Patrol.

No one was injured.

About 30 minutes later, a full-size sedan was shot multiple times on northbound I-5 between South 56th Street and South 38th Street, troopers said.

No one was injured.

Crews search for man who jumped from Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Crews are searching the water and shorelines near the Tacoma Narrows Bridges after receiving a report that a man jumped from the eastbound bridge tonight, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer.

A witness called in a report just after 8 a.m. that a light-skinned man in his 30s jumped. It’s not clear if the reportee was a motorist or pedestrian.

Tacoma Fire, Gig Harbor police and Washington State Patrol are also responding.

The Tacoma Fire boat, sheriff’s boat and Gig Harbor police boat are investigating.

A Coast Guard Helicopter is on its way from Port Angeles.



CLEARED: Collision blocking lane of westbound SR 16 at east end of Tacoma Narrows Bridge

UPDATE: All lanes are open.

INITIAL POST: A rollover collision on westbound State Route 16 at the east end of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge is blocking the left lane, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation at 4:34 p.m. WSDOT traffic cameras show vehicles backed up to at least the South Union Avenue ramp.

One vehicle carrying a 25-foot travel trailer was involved in the collision, and there is minor injury, Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said.

Man with the fake candy bar on the Narrows Bridge explains himself

Remember the fake candy bar sighting Wednesday on the Narrows Bridge?

To fresh your memory, the Washington State Patrol reported that troopers responded to the bridge after a report of a “suspicious package.” The package turned out to be a sizable fake candy bar.

The man carrying the fake confection sent an email to the Seattle Times, giving his side of what happened. He is a factory representative for World’s Finest Chocolate.

Narrows Bridge work Saturday will be visual distraction

Part of the shoulder and sidewalk on the eastbound side of the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge will be closed for repair work Saturday.

Crews need to finish repair work to a barrier that was damaged in a crash Tuesday, the state Department of Transportation reported.

The shoulder and sidewalk will be closed at the southwest end of the bridge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
