Deputies end search for man presumed to have drowned in Spanaway Lake

After more than two days of sonar sweeps, officials have ended the unsuccessful search for the body of a man presumed to have drowned in Spanaway Lake Sunday.

“We won’t be searching again,” Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Toddler drowns in Spanaway Lake

A 21-month-old toddler drowned in Spanaway Lake tonight after he climbed out of his house on the water, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to the 17100 block of 6th Avenue Court South at 7:15 p.m.

The boy was found by his 9-year-old brother, who screamed for help, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

A neighbor nearby with a rowboat started CPR, which crews continued when they arrived, but the boy later died at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood about 8 :15 p.m., Troyer said.
