Reward offered in South Hill homicide

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward in last week’s slaying of a 25-year-old man inside his South Hill home.

Investigators say someone shot and killed Nicholas Looney about 3:25 a.m. Thursday at his home in the 14600 block of 117th Avenue Court East. Looney had been standing at his bedroom window when he was shot several times through the window.

Witnesses heard the shots, then saw three suspects run from the home, deputies reported. No descriptions of the suspects have been released.

No suspects yet in deadly South Hill shooting

Detectives were investigating several possibilities in this week’s deadly shooting of a 25-year-old man inside a South Hill home.

However, Pierce County sheriff’s investigators have not identified a suspect or motive in Nichola Looney’s slaying.

“We have multiple directions to check and figure out,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Friday.

Looney’s roommate went to a neighbor’s home shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday and reported Looney had been shot.

Deputies arrived at Looney’s home in the 14600 block of 117th Avenue Court East and found him dead inside.

UPDATED: One dead in South Hill shooting

UPDATED at 7:43 a.m.

A young man has been killed inside a South Hill home and Pierce County sheriff’s deputies are searching for the gunman.

The man’s roommate went to a neighbor’s house shortly before 3:30 a.m. today and reported the shooting, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. When deputies responded to the home in the 14600 block of 117th Avenue Court East, they found the man dead inside.

The man is described as in his 20s.

Electrical problem likely sparked deadly South Hill mobile home fire

Fire investigators have determined that an electrical problem likely sparked a deadly mobile home fire Wednesday afternoon on South Hill.

Investigators believe the blaze started inside the home in an area where a computer and other electronic devices had been.

“It probably is electrical,” Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said today. “There are no other ignition sources.”

UPDATED: One man dead in South Hill mobile home fire

One man has been found dead inside a South Hill mobile home after it caught fire this afternoon.

Investigators believe the man is the father of a Pierce County sheriff’s detective, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. However, the man’s identity has not been confirmed.

A neighbor called 911 just after 1 p.m. to report the fire at the mobile home in the 12600 block of 113th Avenue East, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said. Neighbors tried to get inside but were not able too.

“It was just too much flame and too much heat,” Stephens said.

Pierce County deputies looking for suspected bank robber

Pierce County sheriff’s investigators are searching for a man who robbed a South Hill bank branch Tuesday afternoon while wearing a cowboy hat and sunglasses.

The man carried a bag and walked into Wells Fargo, 15806 Meridian Ave. E., at 4:50 p.m. He went up to the counter and handed the tellers a note that demanded cash. The note also threatened violence, deputies reported.

The robber put an undisclosed amount of cash into the bag and left the bank. He got into a dirty, light-colored car that was waiting outside. An unidentified woman was driving, deputies reported.

Memorial service today for slain South Hill teen

Just a reminder …

A memorial service Kimmie Daily, a 16-year-old South Hill girl who was missing for nearly a week before her body was found six blocks from her house, will be held today.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. at Calvary Community Church, 15116 Gary St., Sumner. A reception will follow the funeral at the church and then a graveside service will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup.

Fundraisers planned for slain South Hill teen

A number of events are being planned to help raise money for the family of a 16-year-old South Hill girl who was found dead earlier this week.

The body of Kimberly “Kimmie” Daily was discovered Monday night in a vacant lot, nearly a week after she’d been reported missing by her family. Pierce County prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old neighbor with aggravated murder in Daily’s death.
