Tacoma police release surveillance photo of suspected convenience store robber

Tacoma police have released a surveillance image of a man suspected of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint last week.

The robber walked into the 7-Eleven at 4701 S. Oakes St. about 2:45 a.m. May 16. He approached the counter and pulled out a handgun, police reported.

The suspect pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded cash. After getting an undisclosed amount of money, he ran from the store.

UPDATED: New images released in April purse snatching that injured elderly woman in Tacoma

UPDATED at 11:20 a.m.

Tacoma police are releasing new surveillance images in hopes of finding the man who pushed down and snatched the purse of a 90-year-old woman in a South End parking lot last month.

The images show a man using one of the victim’s stolen credit cards at a gas station at East 74th Street and McKinley Avenue minutes after the robbery. Police say the man is filling up the getaway vehicle from the April 3 attack.

UPDATED: Police, fire investigating suspicious fire overnight at Tacoma day care

UPDATED at 11:32 a.m.

Tacoma police and fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire early today at a day care in the South End.

Firefighters spotted a gas can on the ground and a broken window on the building in the 9200 block of Pacific Avenue, Tacoma fire spokesman Dale Vaughn said.

The cause of the fire, which left about $8,000 in damage, was under investigation.

Pathways to Learning Child Care, which is associated with the Church of God in Christ, is closed today.

Pat Hill, whose wife runs the center, said the day care sustained mostly water damage.

Tacoma officers called to large fight outside South End bar

Tacoma police officers were called to a South End bar early today after witnesses reported that more than 100 people were involved in a fight.

The fighting took place across the street from the bar in the 8400 block of South Hosmer Street just after 2 a.m., Tacoma police reported.

Security guards from Latitude 84 sprayed the crowd with pepper spray. Many dispersed before Tacoma officers arrived.

Those who remained were not cooperative with Tacoma police and refused to provide information about the fight, police said.

No injuries or arrests were reported.


UPDATED: Tacoma police arrest man wanted in South End shooting

UPDATED at 1:54 p.m.

Tacoma police have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of shooting another man during an argument last month in the parking lot of a South End motel.

Officers arrested Robert K. Hoke and booked him into Pierce County Jail on Sunday night. Hoke had a warrant for his arrest after prosecutors charged him with second-degree assault.

Prosecutors allege Hoke shot a man in the neck Feb. 22 outside the motel in the 8800 block of Pacific Avenue. Hoke and another man had confronted the victim in the lot.

The victim’s injuries were not considered life threatening.

Man shot, wounded during argument in the South End, Tacoma police report

One man was shot and seriously injured Wednesday night during an argument outside a South End motel, Tacoma police reported.

The victim was hit in the neck and taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were not considered life threatening this morning, Tacoma police officer Naveed Benjamin said.

The shooting occurred just before 10:30 p.m. The victim and another man had been at the Calico Cat, 8821 Pacific Ave.

While in the parking lot, an argument erupted between the two and a third man. The third man reportedly assaulted the victim, Benjamin said.

UPDATED: Pedestrian hit, injured on Pacific Avenue, Tacoma police report

UPDATED at 11:35 a.m.

A pedestrian was hit and injured Monday night while trying to cross Pacific Ave in Tacoma’s South End.

Tacoma police report the man was intoxicated and started crossing the roadway in an unmarked crossing in the 8400 block. The pedestrian was struck by a northbound vehicle just after 8 p.m.

He suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police reported.

The driver stopped and was interviewed by Tacoma police. There were no signs of impairment, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reported.


South End Tacoma convenience store robbed at gunpoint

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed a South End convenience store early today at gunpoint.

The robber walked into the Shell gas station at 8433 S. Hosmer St. about 12:15 a.m., police reported.

He wielded a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. After the robbery, the suspect left the store and fled on foot, police reported.

The man was described as white and 6 feet tall. He wore dark glasses, a dark hat, gray hooded-style sweatshirt and blue jeans.
