Tacoma police have one in custody after two banks robbed on Sixth Avenue

Tacoma police are investigating two bank robberies five minutes apart on Sixth Avenue this afternoon.

Officers have arrested one man and suspect he robbed both banks, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The first heist was reported at 1:26 p.m. The man walked into Chase Bank, 6616 Sixth Ave.,  and implied he had a weapon. He got an undisclosed amount of cash and left.

Five minutes later, a robbery was reported at Bank of America at 6510 Sixth Ave.

The suspect was seen walking on Sixth Avenue. Officers captured him a few businesses down, Fulghum said.


UPDATED: Suspected drug deal ends in robbery on Sixth Avenue, Tacoma police report

UPDATED at 10:11 a.m.

Pierce County law enforcement officers arrested one man and were searching for another after a drug deal went sideways Tuesday night along Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reports that the suspects and victims knew each other.

The victims called the suspects and they agreed to meet for a drug transaction in the 2000 block of Sixth Avenue. During the meeting, the two suspects each pulled guns and robbed the victims  about 7:40 p.m., Tacoma police reported.

Police reported that the victim said he was robbed of $500.

UPDATED: Driver sought after deadly hit-and-run in Tacoma

Tacoma police were searching for a driver who fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash along Sixth Avenue late Wednesday.

About 11:50 p.m., a pickup truck was going eastbound in the 4600 block of Sixth Avenue. A witness reported that the truck was speeding when it lost control, drifted into the parking lane and hit three parked vehicles, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The driver, described as a white man in his 40s, got out and ran from the crashed truck. The passenger in the vehicle, a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man robs Sixth Avenue burger restaurant at gunpoint

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed a Sixth Avenue fast-food restaurant Sunday night while wielding a handgun.

The robbery was reported just after 10:45 p.m. at the Carl’s Jr., 5925 Sixth Ave. The man walked into the restaurant and robbed the employees at gunpoint. He left in an unknown direction, police reported.

Officers set up a perimeter. A police dog looked for the robber but didn’t find him.

The robber was described as black and between 19 and 24 years old. He wore a bandana over his face, police reported.


Man arrested after attempted child luring incident at Tacoma bowling alley

Tacoma police arrested a 56-year-old man Wednesday night on suspicion of trying to lure a 3-year-old girl at a Sixth Avenue bowling alley.

The man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of child luring.

The incident occurred about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at Tower Lanes, 6323 Sixth Ave. The girl’s father told Tacoma police that he had spotted the suspect wandering around the bowling alley, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The man appeared to be very intoxicated.

Man robs Sixth Avenue grocery at gunpoint

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed a Sixth Avenue convenience store at gunpoint Monday night.

The robbery was reported just before 6:30 p.m. at the Stop in Grocery, 3908 Sixth Avenue. The man wielded a gun and demanded the clerk empty the cash register, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

After the robbery, the suspect fled the store. A police dog conducted a track but did not find the man.

UPDATED: Two men rob Sixth Avenue fast-food restaurant

Tacoma police were searching for two men who robbed a Sixth Avenue fast-food restaurant early Thursday.

The men walked into the McDonald’s at 6133 Sixth Avenue just after midnight and displayed handguns. They ordered employees to the floor and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash at 12:03 a.m. They fled in an unknown direction, Tacoma police reported.

Officers set up containment and a police dog searched for the suspects. No arrests were made.

The robbers were described only as white men wearing dark hooded sweatshirts. Both wore masks during the robbery.

The investigation was ongoing.

Sixth Avenue cafe robbed at gunpoint

Two men – one wielding a gun – robbed a Sixth Avenue cafe this morning.

Tacoma police were searching for the two men, but no arrests have been reported so far.

Two men went into the Old Milwaukee Cafe and Dessert Co., 3102 Sixth Avenue, about 10:45 a.m., Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

One of the man told employees, “This is a robbery. Give me all the money.” Meanwhile, the second man stood by the doorway and brandished a handgun, Fulghum said.
