UPDATE: Press release from Akers - “It sounds like crews are still fighting the elements trying to reach the two individuals stranded on or near Blowout Mountain. Tacoma Fire rescues boater off McNeil Island

Tacoma Fire crews rescued a boater in the waters off the northwest tip of McNeil Island Saturday night.

Officials responded at 6:42 p.m. to a report that two people were aboard a 14-foot skiff that capsized.

Tacoma’s fireboat searched for about 10 minutes and found an adult clinging to the skiff and transported the patient to safety.

A second adult had been able to swim to shore and was found safe on the beach.


Crews airlift injured 14-year-old hiker from Mount Pilchuck

Deputies rescued a 14-year-old hiker from Mount Pilchuck this afternoon after he reportedly fell about 100 yards down the mountain and was seriously injured, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews were called about 12:43 p.m. to the scene near Granite Falls.

A helicopter airlifted the boy about 3 p.m. He was taken to an area hospital for what were considered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Brent Speyer with the sheriff’s office.

Details about the hiker’s hometown and who he was with at the time of the accident were not immediately available.


Deputies search for elderly woman missing from Spanaway care home

Deputies are looking for a 76-year-old woman missing from a Spanaway adult family home, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

She was last seen about 4 p.m. at the facility in the 19800 block of 16th Avenue Court East, employees at the home told deputies.

The woman has possible mental health issues and uses a walker, according to the sheriff’s department.

She was last seen wearing a black jacket and olive green pants and is described as a white female.

Search and Rescue personnel are on scene looking for the woman.


UPDATED: Missing skiers on Crystal Mountain now found, are OK

UPDATE: The two men have been found and are OK.

UPDATE: KIRO TV is reporting that the two missing skiers have been located. There are reports the men called their girlfriends from campground pay phone.

Searchers were working to confirm the information.


Crews are searching for two Seattle men who are missing after reportedly going out-of-bounds Thursday at Crystal Mountain.

Searchers have been pinging the men’s cell phones and are tracking those pings, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said this morning.

5 Pierce County residents rescued after getting stuck in deep snow in Ashford

Five adults from Pierce County – three out bird hunting and two hiking – were rescued in the High Rock area of Ashford on Monday after their groups got stuck in the deep snow.

None of the five required medical attention.

Lewis County sheriff’s deputies received separate reports Monday morning of two missing groups in the High Rock area.

A family member reported that three bird hunters from Tacoma had failed to return home Sunday night as planned, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported today.
