Police: Lanes of River Road reopen after crash caused by drunken driver

UPDATE as of 6:53 p.m. All lanes have been cleared, according to police.

INITIAL POST: Puyallup police said a three-car crash caused by a drunken driver has caused minor injuries to others and closed two of three lanes of eastbound River Road.

Traffic is being rerouted to Fourth Street Northwest until the roadway is cleared, and drivers are asked to avoid the area, according to police.

Police said about 6 p.m. that the crash had happened in the 300 block of River Road.

Further details were not immediately available.

Shaw Road closed, woman arrested after South Hill man reported someone shot out window of his home

Puyallup police briefly closed Shaw Road this afternoon, after a man called 911 about 3:30 p.m. to report someone had shot out a window of his home in the 1600 block of 28th Street Southwest.

The man found a woman outside his residence who was armed with a handgun, according to Puyallup police.

Officers said the woman, 53, returned to her house before they arrived.

They set up a perimeter around her home, near Shaw Road, and closed Shaw roughly between 15th and 23rd avenues southeast.

Police: Man suspected of driving under the influence told Puyallup officers he ‘had nothing to lose’

A man deemed too impaired by a Puyallup officer to safely walk the line for a sobriety test early Tuesday morning told police he “didn’t have anything to lose,” spokesman Scott Engle said.

Engle gave this account of the traffic stop and arrest that followed:

The adult suspect was pulled over about 1:30 a.m. near East Pioneer Avenue and state Route 512 for failing to signal, an improper stop and other traffic violations.

Puyallup police: Father shoots sleeping adult son, daughter in head

UPDATE as of 4:13 p.m. The boys living in the house are ages 6 and 7, and are the sons of the man who was shot, police said. They have been taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services, according to police. The man remains in grave condition, and the shooting suspect has been booked into Pierce County Jail for investigation of murder and attempted murder, according to police.

Teen girl seriously injured in hit-and-run crash in Puyallup, according to police

A teen girl was seriously injured tonight in a hit-and-run crash in Puyallup, according to police.

The girl was crossing the road about 7:30 p.m. in the 600 block of West Stewart Street, when she was hit by a vehicle traveling east on West Stewart that then fled, according to Puyallup police spokesman Capt. Scott Engle.

The girl appears to have been walking in the cross walk, heading south across West Stewart Street, Engle said.

Sting involving Pierce County nets 21 suspected thieves, 26 stolen cars

Pierce County arraignments started today after a six-month undercover investigation that ended Tuesday with 21 people in custody and 26 stolen cars recovered, including one owned by a soldier who was deployed.

Detectives from several agencies bought stolen property from suspects as part of the Auto Crimes Enforcement Task Force, an operation they called “Shiny Penny,” according to Lakewood police.

The investigation involved auto theft, firearms violations, residential burglary and fraud across Washington state, including Pierce County, police said.

Officers identified 26 suspects during the investigation and recovered 16 firearms, among other stolen property.

UPDATED: SWAT at Puyallup mobile home where police say man has barricaded himself inside; Some nearby homes evacuated

A 53-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening after police said he barricaded himself inside his mobile home after he allegedly assaulted his wife and destroyed her property.

Police initially got a call about a domestic violence incident at 12:40 p.m. in the 200 block of 27th Avenue Southeast.

The suspect refused to exit the mobile home, indicated he was armed and would not communicate with officers, spokesman Capt. Scott Engle said. Metro SWAT went into the home about 4:30 p.m., at which point the man complied and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Puyallup police start campaign against DUIs, car prowls, vehicle theft

Puyallup police start a campaign today to reduce car prowls, vehicle theft and impaired driving.

The annual Not in Puyallup Emphasis Campaign will include 15 extra DUI emphasis patrols between Nov. 24 and Dec. 31.

Officers will also be targeting car prowlers and vehicle thieves is shopping areas of the city.

Community volunteers will help inspect cars at the South Hill Mall Dec. 22 to educate the public about why valuables shouldn’t be left in vehicles during the holiday season.
