Boy, 9, dies day after allegedly impaired uncle crashed car in Purdy

A 9-year-old boy died tonight after he was ejected Saturday from a car driven by his uncle.

Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital spokeswoman Marce Edwards confirmed tonight that the boy has died. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified him.

The crash about 1:30 a.m. Saturday happened as the driver tried to exit from westbound state Route 16 to Purdy Drive, lost control, and flipped the vehicle, according to the State Patrol.

Tacoma police identify officer involved in deadly shooting near Purdy

The Tacoma Police Department has released the name of a patrol officer who shot and killed a man armed with a gun early Wednesday near Purdy.

Officer Hannah Heilman, 35, has been with the Tacoma Police Department for seven years, the agency released today. She’s been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when an officer uses deadly force.

Heilman was on her way home early Wednesday after a patrol shift when she spotted a pickup truck driving erratically on state Route 302. Thinking the driver might be intoxicated, Heilman initiated a traffic stop near 97th Avenue Northwest

ALL CLEAR: Crash blocking lane of SR 302 in Purdy

A crash is blocking a lane of State Route 302 in Purdy this morning, the state Department of Transportation reports.

The crash was reported at 7:45 a.m. It occurred in the westbound lane of SR 302 at 82nd Avenue Northwest.

State Patrol troopers are on the scene. A tow truck is en route.

UPDATE: The crash has been cleared and the lane is back open to drivers.
