Fife police arrest man and woman in connection with Montana Amber Alert, child found safe

An anonymous tip this morning about a stolen pickup parked outside a Fife apartment complex helped officers find a 1-year-old Montana boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert after he was reportedly abducted Saturday night, according to Fife police.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. to the 5700 block of 23rd Street East, where they found and arrested the boy’s parents — a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman — who were reported by Montana authorities as suspects in the abduction of the child from his custodial grandparents’ home and were thought to possibly be headed to Washington.

Man who allegedly confessed to killing wife by calling TV station moved from hospital to jail

The estranged husband of a Spanaway woman found dead in a Tacoma motel room early Thursday was moved from the hospital to the Pierce County Jail today, jail records show.

Tony Barrett, 42, was taken to the hospital following his arrest Thursday. He allegedly confessed to killing his wife in a call to a Seattle television station.

His hospital stay was for a medical condition that wasn’t related to the dog bites he suffered while struggling with authorities during his arrest, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Troyer said he couldn’t discuss Barrett’s medical condition, citing federal privacy law.

Four juveniles, one adult arrested after robbery on South Thompson Avenue

Several suspects, one armed with a handgun, demanded the wallet of a pedestrian overnight in the 3500 block of South Thompson Avenue, according to police.

Officers said the group of six suspects fled on foot. Five people were arrested nearby. Officers used a K9 team to search for another, but were unsuccessful.

Four juveniles were booked into Remann Hall and one adult was booked into Pierce County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery.

The wallet and all its contents were returned to the pedestrian, officers said.


State Patrol arrests soldier accused of using Internet to exploit underage girls while deployed

A JBLM soldier accused of using “fear tactics” to get illegal pictures and video from teenage girls was arrested this afternoon after the Washington State Patrol learned he had returned from an overseas deployment.

The suspect, 24, was booked into Pierce County Jail for investigation of Possession of Depictions of a Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct, Communication With A Minor for Immoral Purposes, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and Extortion, according to the State Patrol.

The eight alleged victims are between 15- and 17-years-old.

Puyallup man shot after spat in apartment parking lot

A 26-year-old Puyallup man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the abdomen during a dispute with another man in the parking lot of their apartment building Wednesday night, police say.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Ninth Street Southeast about 11:30 p.m., said Puyallup police Cpt. Dave McDonald.

The victim was treated by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect after he fled on foot, when he returned to the scene about an hour later. He will be booked into Pierce County Jail

Autopsy today on Pierce County Jail inmate who died this week

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy today on a 42-year-old Pierce County Jail inmate who died Wednesday.

Corrections officers at the jail found Micah Tyler bleeding heavily from a shunt in his arm Wednesday morning in his cell. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Tyler, who had been in and out of jail, was currently being held on second-degree assault.

Pierce County Jail inmate found dead in apparent suicide

Pierce County Jail officials are investigating the suspected suicide of a 48-year-old inmate.

The man was discovered in his cell Wednesday during a routine bed check, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. He had not been on a mental health hold.

The inmate had been booked into the jail March 18 by Lakewood police on suspicion of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and on two outstanding warrants.
