Tacoma police identify officer involved in deadly shooting near Purdy

The Tacoma Police Department has released the name of a patrol officer who shot and killed a man armed with a gun early Wednesday near Purdy.

Officer Hannah Heilman, 35, has been with the Tacoma Police Department for seven years, the agency released today. She’s been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when an officer uses deadly force.

Heilman was on her way home early Wednesday after a patrol shift when she spotted a pickup truck driving erratically on state Route 302. Thinking the driver might be intoxicated, Heilman initiated a traffic stop near 97th Avenue Northwest

Inquest ordered in fatal police-involved shooting in Auburn

According to The Associated Press:

The King County executive has ordered an inquest into an Auburn police officer’s fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man.

Auburn police say the officer fired May 7 after a man he stopped for a burned-out headlight climbed out of his car and threatened the officer with a knife.

Killed was Brian Scaman of Auburn.

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg recommended the inquest to County Executive Dow Constantine after Satterberg’s office reviewed the Kent Police Department’s investigation of the shooting.

The inquest is a fact-finding hearing conducted before a six-member jury.

UPDATED: Tacoma officer kills man during traffic stop on Key Peninsula

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: The truck driver who was killed has been identified as Brooks Papineau. He died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Papineau went to work at 6 p.m. Tuesday night, then left two hours later after he said he felt sick. Investigators were researching where he was between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Papineau had a Chinese-made handgun.

UPDATED: Search under way for driver who hit, injured Tacoma police officer

UPDATE: Tacoma police have released the name and photograph of a man believed to have been injured this morning in a confrontation with two officers on Pacific Avenue.

Right now, officers are concerned about getting Michael J. Wilson, 25, treatment, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“We believe he may be injured and in need of medical attention,” he said. “Once his medical needs are tended to we will address the legal situation.”

UPDATED: Tacoma police shoot, wound suspected burglar

A Tacoma police officer shot and injured a suspected burglar early today after a confrontation outside a South Tacoma home where the suspect crashed a vehicle.

The 24-year-old burglar suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The 31-year-old officer also was injured in the incident. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of either a cut or abrasion to his head, Fulghum said. The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after officer-involved shootings.

UPDATED: Kent police shot, kill armed man at transit center

A Kent police officer shot and killed a man armed with a long gun this morning at the Kent Transit Center.

The man, a 58-year-old Kent resident, died at the scene, said Cathy Schrock, Federal Way police spokeswoman. The Federal Way Police Department is investigating the deadly shooting.

Meanwhile, two Kent officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when officers fire their weapons. One officer is a three-year veteran of the department; the other is a six-year veteran. Their names have not been released.

Ruling: Man died from Lakewood officer’s bullet, not his own in February

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that a Lakewood police officer’s bullet killed a man in February after a domestic violence incident.

The office had been investigating whether Daniell Johnson, 35, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or from shots fired from officer Brian Markert’s gun. The review found Johnson died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the office reported Monday. He also had been shot in the head.

Johnson’s death has been ruled a homicide.

Johnson was killed Feb. 8 after his ex-wife called police to her home in the 20 block of Rips Lane Southwest.

UPDATE: Two Kent officers shoot, injure man

UPDATE: Renton police report the man’s condition has been upgraded to serious and he is expected to survive.

ORIGINAL POST: A 63-year-old Kent man was shot and injured by Kent police Tuesday night after he reportedly pointed a gun at two officers.

The injured man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of his injuries. His condition was not known.

The two officers, 27 and 29, have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when officers use deadly force.
