UPDATED: Firefighters on scene of house fire in Northeast Tacoma

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: Three exotic birds were rescued from cages in the back of the home, said fire spokesman Joe Meinecke. The fire appears to have started in the garage, but investigators are still determining where and how it began, Meinecke said. The structure is “heavily damaged,” mostly in the garage and the part of the house above it, he said. A truck parked outside the house was also damaged.

3:16 p.m.: The fire is out. There is heavy damage to the building and there are no injuries to report, according to Tacoma fire.

UPDATED: Police investigating home-invasion robbery in Northeast Tacoma

UPDATED at 1:43 p.m.

Tacoma police are searching for three men who held seven members of a family at gunpoint and ransacked their Northeast Tacoma home overnight.

Officers reported that the suspects kicked in the front door of the house in the 3700 block of 50th Avenue Northeast sometime after 1:30 a.m. while the four adults and three children were sleeping.

Two of the suspects had semi-automatic handguns. One wore a mask. Another had the hood of his sweatshirt cinched up tight around his face, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The family members didn’t get a good look at

Cache of weapons seized after Northeast Tacoma man threatens to harm himself

Tacoma police contacted a Northeast Tacoma man and confiscated his cache of weapons after he threatened to kill himself Monday.

Officers were called to the 5400 block of 34th Court Northeast on Monday. The man had been armed with a gun and arguing with his wife, police reported. The man reportedly put the gun in the safe, then left the home after Tacoma police were called.

The man later called his parents and threatened to kill himself. He said that he was walking in the area, police reported.

Man arrested on suspicion of DUI after crash in Northeast Tacoma

Tacoma police arrested a man early today on suspicion of drunken driving after he crashed into a light pole, mail box and rockery in Northeast Tacoma.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in the area of 58th Avenue Northeast and Norpoint Way Northeast, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Officers suspect the man lost control and struck the pole, a fence, a mail box and rockery. He was walking around afterward, Fulghum said.

Officers arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving.

Northeast Tacoma man arrested allegedly shooting at neighbor’s home

Tacoma police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of firing a shotgun at his neighbor’s window early today.

The man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Norpoint Way N.E. A man and woman living in the home reported hearing a loud knock on the door, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Man pleads guilty, is sentenced in Northeast Tacoma arson spree

A 29-year-old man has pleaded guilty and been sentenced in connection with a string of landscaping fires in Northeast Tacoma earlier this year.

Thomas John Eurell pleaded guilty Friday to four counts of first-degree arson.

Prosecutors alleged Eurell set fires in late April and May to shrubs and trees in people’s yards in Northeast Tacoma. No one was injured in the arson spree but two of the fires spread or threatened to spread to homes.

Eurell told investigators he was upset because a Federal Way police officer gave him a traffic ticket a few months earlier.

UPDATED: Possible attempted arson reported overnight in Northeast Tacoma

Tacoma police are investigating an early morning possible attempted arson in the Northeast part of the city.

Officers were called to the 3700 block of 49th Avenue Northeast just after 1 a.m. today, police reported. Witnesses reported seeing a person trying to light a small tree on fire. Nothing was ever ignited, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“There is no evidence or indication that anything was actually lit on the fire,” he added.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction. Officers set up containment and a police dog tried to look for the suspect. The suspect was not located.

UPDATED: Firefighters respond to blaze overnight in Northeast Tacoma

Tacoma police and firefighters were investigating whether an overnight fire in Northeast Tacoma is related to a string of suspicious fires in the area over the past three weeks.

The most recent fire was reported just before 2:30 a.m. today at 2741 58th Ave. N.E., Tacoma fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said. Firefighters doused the flames in the bushes.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters cleared the scene about 3:30 a.m.

The previous fires have been concentrated in the area of 49th Avenue Northeast and 32nd Street Northeast and between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. The flames have burned
