Crews put out brush fire behind Mt. Tahoma High School

Firefighters just finished putting out a roughly 200-by-200 foot brush fire at South Tyler and South 74th streets by Mount Tahoma High School, Tacoma Fire Battalion Chief Jim Zuluaga said.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and Tacoma Fire responded to the blaze about 7:30 p.m. and worked together to extinguish the flames.

No buildings were in danger, and no one was hurt.

It’s not clear how the fire started, Zuluaga said.

Tacoma Power crews had to let emergency workers through gates to access the flames, but the nearby power substation was not threatened, Zuluaga said.
