Man robbed Shoreline, Milton banks within two hours

Law enforcement officers in King and Pierce counties are searching for a man who they believe robbed two banks within two hours Wednesday.

The first robbery occurred about 11:15 a.m. The man walked into the Whidbey Island Bank, 20333 Ballinger Way, in Shoreline. He showed the teller a note that demanded cash and left with an undisclosed amount of money, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported today.

The loot also included a dye pack, which exploded down the street and sent a cloud of orange smoke into the air.

UPDATED: Woman pleads not guilty to murder, other charges in Milton crash

A woman accused of killing another driver and seriously injuring his passenger while fleeing Federal Way police in July pleaded not guilty to several charges in connection with the crash this afternoon.

Pierce County prosecutors previously charged Virginia C. Ramsey, a 36-year-old Auburn resident, with second-degree murder, vehicular assault, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a legend drug and third-degree driving with a suspended or revoked license in the July 26 crash.

SR 99 backed up due to bar fire in Milton

UPDATE: The Cedarwood Dome announced that today’s fire has not impacted a concert scheduled for Wednesday.

Adler’s Appetite will play at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Doors open at 7 p.m.

UPDATE: The northbound and southbound lanes are open as of 6:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

UPDATE: Both directions of state Route 99 from Porter Way to North 709th Avenue East in Fife are clogged with traffic due to a fire burning at a bar in Milton.

The roadways are expected to be blocked until 7:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

UPDATED: Victim of deadly Milton crash identified

The man who was killed Monday night when a suspected drunken driver plowed into his vehicle in Milton has been identified as Douglas Simmons III.

Simmons, 40, was a Fife resident.

Meanwhile, the suspect remains hospitalized.The 36-year-old Auburn woman was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, a hospital spokeswoman said.

2 arrested in Milton pharmacy robberies

Milton police have arrested a man and woman in connection with two pharmacy robberies in recent weeks in the city.

Both robberies occurred at the Albertson’s pharmacy, 2800 Milton Way, the police department announced today.

In the first robbery on June 26, the man demanded “oxy” from the pharmacy and threatened to shoot the pharmacist, Milton police reported.

The second robbery occurred Sunday. A woman went to the pharmacy and demanded “oxy.” She too threatened to shoot the pharmacist, police reported.

Charges filed in hit-and-run death of teenager in Milton

Pierce County prosecutors filed charges today against a 47-year-old man accused of hitting and killing a teenage girl Wednesday night in Milton.

Robert V. Mitzel has been charged with vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in a death. He’s scheduled for a bail return hearing this afternoon in Pierce County Superior Court.

Kelsey Parrett, 15, was struck as she walked with a friend about 9 p.m. Wednesday on 15th Avenue in Milton. She died early Thursday of her injuries at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Vigil tonight for girl killed in Milton hit-and-run

Friends, family and community members are invited to a candlelight vigil tonight for a 15-year-old girl killed in a hit-and-run crash in Milton.

Kelsey Parrett was struck as she walked to a friend’s house about 9 p.m. Wednesday on 15th Avenue between Juniper and Hemlock streets. She died of her injuries early today at Madigan Army Medical Center.

The candlelight vigil begins at 8 p.m. at the scene of the crash, Faith Family Church reported.
