Tacoma Fire Department to honor heroes and victims of 9/11 with public ceremony

A public remembrance ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Firefighters Memorial at 3301 Ruston Way will mark the 11th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The Tacoma Fire Department will honor the firefighters, police, emergency medical services workers and civilians who lost their lives on 9/11.

Mayor Marilyn Strickland and Tacoma Interim Fire Chief James P. Duggan will speak at the ceremony.

Service to ‘reclaim’ space where Spanaway man said he killed wife, brought daughter’s body

Associated Ministries will hold a service Thursday to “reclaim” the home where a Spanaway man told police he fatally shot his wife and later brought his daughter’s body, according to the group.

Dean Holmes, 40, turned himself into the Pierce County Jail early Aug. 30, at which point he told police he had shot his wife, Kristi, and their 11-year-old daughter, Violet.

The service, called a Moment of Blessing, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at 15507 20th Ave. Ct. E.

Memorial service Saturday for Spanaway pastor killed in crash

The memorial service for a Spanaway pastor who died in a motorcycle accident in Roy will be held Saturday afternoon.

Thom Carlson, 43, of Puyallup was riding his motorcycle Feb. 20  at the 32100 block of Eighth Avenue South when he hit a car pulling into the parking lot of the Lacamas Community Club. He was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Carlson served as pastor in the Real Life Family Center for six years.

The service will take place 2 p.m. at the Church for All Nations, 111 112th St. E, Tacoma.
