Longshore worker taken to hospital after injury at Port of Tacoma

A longshore worker was injured today when a bar he was using to remove lashings from containers on a ship hit him in the eye and cheek, according to the Port of Tacoma.

The man was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, Port spokeswoman Tara Mattina said.

The longshoreman was working on a ship in the Olympic Container Terminal when he was injured, she said, adding that it appeared that the bar “got away from him.”

The Tacoma Fire Department responded to the ship just before 6 p.m. and transported the worker
