UPDATED Lakewood mobile home park residents should have power soon

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. Sat. Jan.12 

By Saturday evening, power was being restored in stages to the Village Green Mobile Home Park in Lakewood, a volunteer working with the park’s management said.

Mary Lou Goldner, who identified herself as the wife of the mobile home park’s assistant manager, told The News Tribune several groups of mobile homes had power restored by 6:50 p.m.  Park managers expected that an unknown number of homes still without power would get it back before the end of Saturday night, she added.

Man dies in Lakewood condo fire

A 46-year-old Lakewood man is dead after a condominium fire Saturday night.

Firefighters responded around 11 p.m. to the 8600 block of Zircon Drive SW and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the window of a second-story unit.

Residents of the complex were evacuated; no one else was injured. The fire started in the deceased man’s condominium, according to Lakewood fire spokeswoman Jenny Sharp. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to determine the cause of death Monday.

Lakewood woman pleads guilty after deadly fire started in her apartment

A 52-year-old Lakewood woman charged after she failed to report an apartment fire that killed her neighbor has pleaded guilty in the case.

Lisa Ann Horton pleaded guilty this morning to second-degree manslaughter and first-degree arson. The prosecutor and Horton’s attorney agreed to recommend a sentence of three years. Pierce County Superior Court Judge Vicki Hogan imposed the recommendation.

The Dec. 22 fire killed 63-year-old Aida Vilog, who had immigrated to the United States from the Philippines two weeks before her death to marry her long-time sweetheart. The two married Dec. 10.

UPDATED: Three injured after I-5 crash, carjacking

Three people were injured Monday night after a man tried to flee from Lakewood police, crashed along Interstate 5 and carjacked a second vehicle, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The man was later found after he fled into housing on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The man was booked into Pierce County Jail early today on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree theft, two counts of vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Man robs Lakewood bank branch

Lakewood police are searching for a man who robbed a Key Bank branch this morning.

The man entered the bank at 8017 Steilacoom Blvd. just after 10:30 a.m. He handed the teller a note that demanded money and implied he had a weapon, police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said.

The robber left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. He’s described as white, in his 30s and 6 feet 1. He had long, dirty blonde hair and wore a dark shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap, Hoffman said.
