King County Sheriff’s deputy injured in off-duty motorcycle crash near Frederickson dies

A King County sheriff’s deputy died Wednesday night at Tacoma General Hospital from injuries suffered in an off-duty motorcycle crash Monday near Frederickson, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Martin “Marty” Duran, 47, served in the Army before becoming a paramedic and firefighter in New Mexico, sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindi West said. He eventually became a deputy with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico, and in 2004 started working for King County.

He most recently worked out of the Burien station, in the White Center and Skyway areas.

Man critically injured in Frederickson motorcycle crash was off-duty King County deputy

A 47-year-old man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash near Frederickson Monday night was an off-duty King County Sheriff’s deputy, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The South Hill area man remains in critical condition after the crash, which happened about 5 p.m. in the 7500 block of 176th Street East, Troyer said.

Family members and King County deputies are with the man at the hospital, Troyer said, and King County Sheriff John Urquhart has visited.

Kayakers rescued from Green River this afternoon in separate incidents

Two kayakers were pulled from the Green River in separate incidents this afternoon, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman in her 40s fell out of her kayak about 1:30 p.m. near Black Diamond, and a 23-year-old Kent man fell from his kayak about 2:30 p.m  at Kanaskat Palmer State Park.

The woman was taken to the hospital in Auburn in critical condition.

Deputies said she had some experience as a river kayaker and was well-equipped with a helmet and life jacket.

A marine unit got the man out, and he was unharmed.

Man found dead in house fire east of Auburn identified

A man found dead in a house fire east of Auburn March 27 has been identified, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Denziael Mashore, 62, lived alone in the house in the 19500 block of Green Valley Road Southeast, sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West said.

The fire, which was reported by a neighbor about 1 p.m., was an accidental electrical blaze, West said.

Person found dead in house fire east of Auburn

UPDATE as of 6:55 p.m. A neighbor called 911 about 1 p.m. to report that the home was on fire, King County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindi West said. Investigators found a man’s body inside after crews put out the fire, West said.  The man has not yet been identified. The home was apparently fully engulfed in flames when Mountain View Fire & Rescue firefighters arrived, West said.

Officials are working to determine what caused the blaze.

UPDATED: Stranded snow machiners expected to spend second night in mountains near Greenwater

UPDATE: Press release from Akers - “It sounds like crews are still fighting the elements trying to reach the two individuals stranded on or near Blowout Mountain. The woman is apparently showing signs of hypothermia setting in and the crews are doing the best they can to get to her. As of about 10:15 p.m., one crew was about 1 mile from their location. Stolen trailers and box truck full of game consoles found empty in Fife, Auburn and Calif.

SeaTac detectives say two trailers and a box truck stolen last month loaded with 7,000 game consoles have been found, but with no electronics inside, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The Wii products, worth $2 million, were stolen Dec. 15 or 16 from a warehouse in the 19100 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive in SeaTac.

The box truck was found Dec. 19 parked near a Fife warehouse, and the business logos had been removed from the vehicle.

Methamphetamine, body armor, brass knuckles found at Kent house

The King County Sheriff’s Office took 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine and $4,000 from a Kent house Saturday morning, and arrested two residents, spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West said today.

Deputies also found body armor, brass knuckles, spring loaded knives, and materials generally used to package and weigh drugs, she said.

Officials served the warrant about 6:30 a.m. at the home in the 13900 block of Southeast 272nd Street, as part of an investigation that started last summer into the sale of methamphetamine.

A 48-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman who live at the house were arrested and booked into King County
