Tacoma Rainiers event raises nearly $10,000 for slain officers families

The Tacoma Rainiers’ tribute last weekend to the six Puget Sound police officers killed in the line of duty in 2009 raised nearly $10,000 for the officers’ families, the team reported this week.

The Rainiers had deemed Saturday’s matchup “S.H.I.E.L.D.” Night as a way to celebrate and remember the six  officers who were killed in the line of duty last year. Seattle police officer Timothy Brenton was gunned down Oct. 31 while sitting in a patrol car; Lakewood police Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards were ambushed in a Parkland coffee shop Nov.

Poker tourney to raise money for slain deputy’s family

Local law enforcement officers are organizing a Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament in honor of a slain Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy.

The tourney is Saturday, March 13 at the Puyallup Elks Lodge, 314 – 27th St. N.E., in Puyallup. Proceeds will go to the family of Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Kent Mundell, who was shot Dec. 21 after responding to a domestic violence call. He died of his injuries a week later.

The buy-in for the tournament is $75. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted, according to a flier for the event. “Unlimited re-buys available,” the flier states.

Auburn bar to host auction tonight for slain officers’ families

There will be an auction tonight at an Auburn bar to raise money for the families of five law enforcement officers killed last year in Pierce County.

The auction is from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Sports Page Bar and Grill, 2802 Auburn Way N. The event will raise money for the families of Lakewood police Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards who were killed Nov. 29 at a Parkland coffee shop; and for the family of Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Kent Mundell, who was mortally wounded Dec. 21.

Run to benefit family of slain Pierce County deputy

A run to benefit the family of a slain Pierce County sheriff’s deputy is scheduled for Saturday.

The proceeds from the Run from the Heart event will go to deputy Kent Mundell’s family. Mundell, 44, was fatally shot when he responded to a domestic violence call Dec. 21 at a home near Eatonville. Sgt. Nick Hausner also was wounded in the gunfire.

Saturday’s event will take place at 2 p.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park. Registration will begin at noon.

Fundraising event this month for children impacted by Dec. 21 deadly shooting

Emerald Downs will host a catered dinner and benefit auction this month to raise money for the children left behind when a domestic violence suspect opened fire on two Pierce County sheriff’s deputies in December.

Deputy Kent Mundell died from the injuries he suffered in the exchange Dec. 21 at a home near Eatonville. The suspect, David Crable, was killed at the scene.

The Emerald Downs event, Heros for Heros,  is Saturday, Feb. 13 from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Concert to raise money for families of two Pierce County sheriff’s deputies

There will be a benefit concert Sunday afternoon at The Swiss in memory of slain Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Kent Mundell.

The concert, which begins at 3 p.m., is sold out. Tickets went quickly.

The event is a fundraiser for the family of Mundell and Richelle Heacock, who’s father works for the Sheriff’s Department. Richelle was seriously injured in a car crash the night before Mundell’s memorial service.

Donation check to be presented to officers during Monster Truck show

The Pacific Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association will be presenting a donation check to Pierce County law enforcement officers Saturday night during the Monster Truck show.

A check for $2,500 will be given to Pierce County sheriff’s Sgt. Nick Hausner and Lakewood police officer Brian Wurts during a break in the show at the Tacoma Dome, the association reported.

Hausner was injured and deputy Kent Mundell mortally wounded Dec. 21 while handling a domestic violence call at a home near Eatonville.
