Angel statue installed beside Powell boys’ grave site

A 10,000-pound marble angel is being installed today above the shared graveside of Charlie and Braden Powell.

The statue will be set at the top of the children’s hill of Puyallup’s Woodbine Cemetery and will be formally revealed Thursday during a 7 p.m. vigil for children who are lost.

The $40,000 project is paid for by donations that flooded in after the community heard the boys’ father, Josh Powell, was to be buried near his sons.

Josh Powell killed the boys, ages 7 and 5, by blowing up their rental home in Graham during a supervised visit.

UPDATED: Stained comforter, kids’ toys and clothes found in Powell storage unit

Pierce County sheriff’s investigators found a comforter stained with blood inside a storage unit rented by Josh Powell but further tests are needed to know what kind of blood it is and who it belonged to.

“None of that can be answered with what we’ve done (so far),” Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The stain on the gray-blue-pink comforter had some properties of blood. It’s been turned over to West Valley City police.

“They will determine if it is relative to their case,” Troyer said.

Investigators also found kids’ blocks, toys, clothes and picture frames in the storage

Investigators have said the move, along with others, showed that Powell was planning to blow up his house and kill his sons. Powell also purchased gasoline, gave away his sons’ clothes and toys and sent emails and left voicemails, saying goodbye and telling relatives what to do with his money and how to

Deputies seize cell phone of Josh Powell’s sister

Pierce County sheriff’s detectives confiscated the cell phone of Josh Powell’s sister after she refused to give emails and voicemails he left for her before he killed his sons Sunday, newly filed court records show.

Alina Powell called 911 on Sunday to report she’s received four emails and a message from her brother that made her concerned for his safety. Detectives contacted her later in the day and requested copies.
