State receives $50.7 million in federal homeland security grants

Pacific Lutheran University, Pierce College, Temple Beth El and the Puyallup Tribal Council are among the local organizations and state agencies receiving $50.7 million in federal homeland security grants.

Gov. Chris Gregoire announced the 2011 grants today. The state received $50.7 million in money under four different programs.

“Our state has already taken many steps to increase emergency preparedness, but this allocation will go a long way toward enhancing protection of our communities,” Gregoire said in a press release.

Among the recipients:

* Chadad of Pierce County received $75,000 under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

* Pacific Lutheran University
