Gang-free event Thursday night at Tacoma middle school

Safe Streets will host a gang summit Thursday night at Baker Middle School in Tacoma.

The event is focused on providing parents in the neighborhood with information about how to prevent their children from joining a gang or becoming involved in the lifestyle.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 8320 S. I St. Earlier in the day, students at Baker will attend gang prevention assemblies, Safe Streets reports.

Another Tacoma gang member now in custody in conspiracy case

One of three reputed Hilltop Crips gang members who’ve been sought in a sizable criminal conspiracy case has been arrested.

Tacoma police booked Cory T. Campbell, 22, into Pierce County Jail shortly before 8:30 p.m.

That leaves two people still on the loose in the case – Kerry T. Edwards and Errol B. Mayers. Warrants have been issued for their arrest.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged 32 men with conspiring to commit a series of violent crimes in Tacoma. All are members of the Hilltop Crips, prosecutors contend.

Another arrested in Hilltop Crips conspiracy case

It appears another one of the suspected gang members sought in a sizable crackdown has been arrested.

He was booked into Pierce County Jail on Tuesday night.

That would make 12 gang members arrested Tuesday in a sweep. Four were still being sought. Others were already in Pierce County Jail, awaiting trial on other charges.

They are among 32 members of the Hilltop Crips charged in a criminal conspiracy case. Investigators and prosecutors allege the members were involved in a series of violent crimes in Tacoma since 2008.

Those in custody will be arraigned this morning on the charges.

UPDATED: Police arrest several members of Tacoma gang in connection with series of violent incidents

Tacoma police, federal agents and corrections officers served a series of early-morning search warrants today and arrested 11 suspected members of a Tacoma street gang accused in nearly two dozen violent crimes dating back more than a year.

They continue to search for five more suspects, Tacoma police reported. Investigators hope to have the remain suspects in custody within 24 hours.

In all, 32 members of the Hilltop Crips have been charged in Pierce County Superior Court with criminal conspiracy and more than 50 other crimes. Some of them were already in custody; others have been arrested in the past

Man charged in weekend shooting in Lakewood

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old man with two counts of attempted second-degree murder after a shooting Saturday in Lakewood that appears to have gang ties.

Ryan G. Clark was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He’s being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Charging documents provide the following information:

Lakewood police were notified of a shooting Saturday. The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. in the 7000 block of 146th Street Southwest.

Three injured in South End, gang-motivated shooting

Three teens were injured – one critically – in two volleys of gunfire between rival gang members on a South End street Saturday night.

One 18-year-old man’s injuries were initially considered life threatening, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. He’s now expected to survive.

The extent of the injuries to the two others who were shot – a 14-year-old girl and another 18-year-old man – were not known Monday. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment, Fulghum said.

Tacoma detectives were working to sort through what happened on the South End street. No arrests have been made.

Man charged in driveby shooting near Mount Tahoma football game

Pierce County prosecutors have filed charges against a 21-year-old man accused of firing a gun outside a Tacoma high school football game last month.

Tacoma police arrested Adrian Obryant Jacobs on Friday night and booked him into jail. On Monday, prosecutors charged him with first-degree assault, driveby shooting and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Second suspect charged in connection with Lakewood shooting

Lakewood Police and members of the South Sound Gang Task Force arrested the second subject in a gang-related shooting last month.

Larell Lee Harttlet was charged in Pierce Count Superior Court with two counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
