Checklist: Your fireworks might be illegal if …

South Sounders should think twice about lighting their fireworks this Fourth of July if they don’t meet the following criteria, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The explosives could be illegal if:

• They’re not from a licensed fireworks stand.

• They aren’t packaged in bright colors with safety warnings on the packaging.

• There’s not a country of manufacture listed on the packaging.

• They’re wrapped with plain brown paper, instead of bright colors.

• They’re solid red, silver or brown.

• They look like rolls of coins with a fuse coming out the side.

Man injured by firework exploding in face

A 23-year-old man in the South Hill area was hurt when a firework exploded in his face Tuesday, KIRO-TV reported.

It happened about 11 p.m. in the 13600 block of 94th Avenue East.

Randy Stephens with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue told KIRO-TV that the man lost vision in one eye and was most likely using illegal fireworks.

The man was treated at Harborview Medical Center for chest and facial injuries.
