Vigil tonight for baby boy killed after Fife hit-and-run crash

The City of Fife has announced that there will be a candlelight vigil tonight for the 3-month-old boy who died this week after his father’s car was hit by vehicle that ran a red light.

The vigil begins at 8 p.m. at Central Park at Radiance Boulevard and Tribute Avenue, the city posted on Twitter.

Jayden Wayman died Tuesday at Mary Bridge Hospital of injuries he suffered in the Sunday night crash.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Matthew Hamilton, 26, on Wednesday with vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident and driving with a suspended

Baby boy injured in Fife hit-and-run crash dies

A 3-month-old boy critically injured Sunday night when another car ran a red light and hit his father’s car in a Fife intersection has died of his injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The boy, whose first name is Jayden, had been receiving treatment at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center. The boy died today, hospital spokeswoman Marce Edwards reported.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old man accused of running a red light and hitting the boy’s car made his first court appearance. Matthew Ryan Hamilton was ordered held in Pierce County Jail pending further investigation. His arraignment was scheduled for later this

Man arrested after infant seriously injured in crash at Fife intersection

A 3-month-old boy was critically injured Sunday night when a car allegedly ran a red light and crashed into a second vehicle, the Fife Police Department reported.

The causing driver ran from the scene but was arrested early today at a Fife apartment complex, Fife police Lt. Tom Thompson said. The 26-year-old man has been booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault, failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident and second-degree driving or revoked with a suspended license.

Two arrested in last week’s Fife bank robbery

Fife police have arrested two men in connection with a robbery at a Pacific Highway bank branch last week.

The suspected getaway driver was arrested Tuesday in Fife; the suspected bank robber was arrested Wednesday in Tacoma.

The Bank of America branch, 5003 Pacific Highway, was robbed just after 2 p.m. Nov. 12. The bandit presented a teller with a note that demanded cash and indicated he was armed with a weapon, police said.

UPDATED: Fife bank robbed

Fife police are also searching for a bank robber this afternoon.

The robbery occurred a short time ago.

We’ll provide more details when they become available.

UPDATE: According to Fife police, a man walked into the Bank of America, 5003 Pacific Highway E., just after 2 p.m. He presented a teller with a note that demanded cash and threatened to hurt someone if the demand was not meant, Fife police Lt. Tom Thompson said.

The teller handed the robber cash and he fled out the door.

Flames rip through abandoned Fife building

Tacoma firefighters doused flames at an abandoned building on Pacific Highway East in Fife this morning.

Firefighters were called to the 6500 block of Pacific Highway East just before 7 a.m., the department reported. They found a two-story, boarded up home from which smoke and flames were showing.

“After crews initial investigation a defensive firefighting mode was established due to the deterioration of the building and the heavy fire load,” the department reported on its Web site.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
