Woman hit, injured by vehicle in Fife

A 20-year-old woman was injured this morning after she was hit by a vehicle as she ran across a Fife street to catch a bus.

Paramedics took the woman to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment of her injuries, Fife police Lt. Tom Thompson said.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle was being interviewed about what happened. He was cooperating with officers, Thompson said.

UPDATED: Missing Fife teen found safe

UPDATE: Spencer Geffe has been found and returned to Fife by Federal Way police.


Fife police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 14-year-old boy who stepped outside his home Tuesday night and hasn’t been seen since.

Spencer Gene Geffe is considered a missing, endangered juvenile. He’s has been diagnosed as “significantly emotionally disturbed and may have aggressive tendencies with younger children,” the department reported. He is 14 but looks younger.

He was last seen about 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 6600 block of 20th Street East. He told his caretaker he was going outside

UPDATED: Man wounded after altercation with Puyallup Tribal police officer

A Puyallup Tribal police officer shot and wounded a man who screamed and threatened the officer while he was gasing up his patrol car Thursday night in Fife, Fife police reported.

The man, whose age was not released, was hit in the leg and taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. The injuries were not considered life threatening, police reported.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

ALL CLEAR: Rolling slowdown on I-5 in Fife for pothole repair

Transportation crews are conducting a rolling slowdown today in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 just north of Porter Way.

The slowdown allows crews to perform an emergency pothole repair, the state DOT reports.

The slowdown was expected to start at 1:10 p.m and to last about 15 minutes.

UPDATE: The slowdown has been completed and the roadway is back open.


UPDATED: Man pleads guilty in deadly Fife crash

A man accused in a hit-and-run crash earlier this year in Fife that killed a 3-month-old boy has pleaded guilty.

Matthew R. Hamilton, 26, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident resulting in death this morning, News Tribune courts reporter Adam Lynn reports. He’s scheduled to be sentenced March 30 at 3 p.m. and faces seven years, three months to nine years, eight months in prison.

Car crashes into pole, cuts power in Fife

Electricity was cut to hundreds of Fife residents early today after a car crashed into a power pole, the Fife Police Department reported.

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. in the 6100 block of Pacific Highway East. The force of the accident broke the power pole and cut electricity in the area, police reported.

When officers arrived on the scene, the driver was nowhere to be seen.

KIRO TV reported that about 800 customers were without power.


ATF, Fife P.D. $10,000 reward in 2008 tavern arson

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Fife Police Department reannounced a $10,000 award for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the investigation of a 2008 tavern arson in Fife.

The fire occurred May 16, approximately 4:50 a.m., at the Fabulous Firwood Tavern, 8014 Valley Ave. E. Fire crews arrived to find the tavern engulfed in flames; the building was a total loss. Investigators determined that the fire had been deliberately set.

Man pleads not guilty in Fife hit-and-run that killed infant

A man accused in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night that killed a 3-month-old boy pleaded not guilty to three charges during his arraignment this afternoon.

Prosecutors have charged Matthew Hamilton, 26, with vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of an accident that results in death and driving with a suspended license. He is being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Hamilton’s arraignment was attended by more than a dozen of Jayden Wayman’s family members. Jayden was strapped into his car seat in the back of his father’s car the Sunday night.
