Attempt to steal work pants from Fife store foiled when security officers detain knife-wielding suspect, police say

Security officers caught and detained a man who tried to take work pants from a Fife sporting goods store Tuesday without paying for them, despite the man’s attempt to ward them off with a knife, according to Fife police.

Police officers arrived and arrested the man for investigation of first-degree robbery. A second suspect who also entered the store offered $20 for each pair of pants he could steal, the other man told police. The second man fled in a car, Fife police said.

They said they were following leads Wednesday to try to find him.

Couple charged, to be extradited after missing Montana boy found safe in Fife Sunday

The biological parents of a 1-year-old Montana boy have been charged with custodial interference and possessing a stolen vehicle, after they were found with the child and arrested by Fife police Sunday when an AMBER alert was issued for the boy.

Bryndi Gibson, 23, and Beau Blasius, 28, are accused of taking the child from his paternal grandparents’ home near Kalispell, Mont. Saturday night and heading to Washington.

They will be extradited to Flathead County, Mont. after the Pierce County case is finished, where they face charges of kidnapping, burglary and motor vehicle theft, according to prosecutors.

Fife police arrest man and woman in connection with Montana Amber Alert, child found safe

An anonymous tip this morning about a stolen pickup parked outside a Fife apartment complex helped officers find a 1-year-old Montana boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert after he was reportedly abducted Saturday night, according to Fife police.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. to the 5700 block of 23rd Street East, where they found and arrested the boy’s parents — a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman — who were reported by Montana authorities as suspects in the abduction of the child from his custodial grandparents’ home and were thought to possibly be headed to Washington.

Sirens in Puyallup River Valley, Pierce County Alerts will be part of drill Monday morning

Pierce County Emergency Management will test 17 outdoor lahar warning sirens Monday at noon in the Puyallup River Valley as part of a monthly drill.

Residents who have signed up to receive Pierce County Alerts will get get notifications at 9 a.m. Monday, according to the Fife Police Department.

Sting involving Pierce County nets 21 suspected thieves, 26 stolen cars

Pierce County arraignments started today after a six-month undercover investigation that ended Tuesday with 21 people in custody and 26 stolen cars recovered, including one owned by a soldier who was deployed.

Detectives from several agencies bought stolen property from suspects as part of the Auto Crimes Enforcement Task Force, an operation they called “Shiny Penny,” according to Lakewood police.

The investigation involved auto theft, firearms violations, residential burglary and fraud across Washington state, including Pierce County, police said.

Officers identified 26 suspects during the investigation and recovered 16 firearms, among other stolen property.

Fife Jiffy Lube robbed

A man threatened to stab an employee at the Fife Jiffy Lube with a knife today when the worker tried to stop him from leaving the store with three air filters he had not paid for, according to Fife police.

Officers responded to the store about 1:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Pacific Highway East.

An officer stopped a man matching the suspect’s description close to the business.

The man threw what he was carrying under vehicles in the area and turned to the officer and threatened to assault him, according to police.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Police say woman hired for massage pepper sprayed, robbed man at Fife hotel

Fife police officers say a man looking for a massage from an advertised escort Monday got pepper sprayed and robbed instead.

Fife officers responded Monday to a call about a robbery in the 3100 block of Pacific Highway East.

They arrived to find a 30-year-old man who said he hired a woman who had posted on backpage.com as an escort to come to his room at the hotel to give him a massage, according to police.

The pair agreed to a price for the service when she arrived, and she went into the restroom, officers said.
