UPDATE as of 4:28 p.m. Police rendered the device safe, spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. “It was what appeared to be a lunch bucket,” she added. Traffic in the area has been reopened.
INITIAL POST: Tacoma police officers are blocking off the area around the Bank of America downtown, and the department’s bomb experts are on their way to investigate a black nylon lunchbox found in front of an automatic teller machine by bank employees, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
The box was found about 2:10 p.m., and employees called police about 30 minutes later when no one claimed it.
