256 drivers stopped during enforcement emphasis in Puyallup

Pierce County law enforcement officers stopped 256 drivers and cited 18 on suspicion of drunken driving during an emphasis patrol last weekend in Puyallup.

In addition to the DUI arrests, officers arrested 13 on suspicion of alcohol and drug violations and eight on misdemeanors and misdemeanor warrants, the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force reported. Three juveniles were arrested on suspicion of being minors in possession of alcohol and taken to Remann Hall juvenile jail.

11 suspected drunken drivers arrested during emphasis in Bonney Lake, Sumner

Law enforcement officers arrested 11 suspected drunken drivers during an emphasis patrol last week in Bonney Lake and Sumner and along Highway 410.

In addition, officers arrested eight drivers on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor drug charges and eight drivers on other misdemeanor and felony charges, the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force reported today.

The enforcement action took place Friday. Officers stopped 276 drivers.

“Our focus Friday night was to remove impaired drivers from the road who could have killed someone if we had not arrested them,” Bonney Lake Police Chief Mike Mitchell said in a press

Extra troopers to look for impaired drivers this weekend

There will be extra troopers on the highways in King County this weekend for the Super Bowl.

The 22 additional troopers will look be looking for drunken drivers, speeders and aggressive drivers, according to a press release issued today by the Washington State Patrol.

“Last year troopers apprehended 34 DUI’s and we were happy to report that there were no fatality collisions on King County highways during Super Bowl weekend,” Capt. Steve Burns said in the press release. “We are hoping for the same outcome this year.”

Emphasis patrol nabs 15 suspected DUI drivers in Tacoma

Fifteen suspected drunken drivers were arrested during a weekend emphasis patrol in Tacoma, the Tacoma Police Department reported.

The Tacoma-Pierce County DUI Task Force sponsored the enforcement. Extra officers were patrolling the streets in Tacoma from 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday, police reported.

The officers made 146 traffic stops.In addition to the 15 drunken driving arrests, the officers arrested:

* 1 person on suspicion of reckless driving.

* 2 people on suspicion of unlawful drug possession.

* 1 person on suspicion of unlawful drug possession with the intent to deliver the drugs.

* 1 on an outstanding warrant.

257 drunken drivers arrested over New Year’s weekend, no fatalities reported

Washington State Patrol troopers arrested 257 suspected drunken drivers over the New Year’s weekend.

The arrests were made between 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and midnight Sunday, according to a press release issued today.

Of those arrested, 33 were involved in crashes. So far, the State Patrol reports no traffic-related fatalities during the holiday period.

“Some agencies may still be investigating and have not submitted their reports,” the press release states.

Last year, there were five traffic fatalities, 42 collisions and 291 drunken driving arrests in the state.

Extra patrols looking for drunken drivers over holiday weekend

The Washington State Patrol is putting extra troopers on the roads this holiday weekend to look for revelers who’ve had too much to drink.

Extra troopers will patrol Pierce and Thurston counties highways for drunken drivers through the weekend. More troopers will on the roads every Friday and Saturday through Jan. 2

In King County, a team of eight troopers and one sergeant will be conducting special emphasis patrols until Jan. 6, the State Patrol reported. The extra patrols began Nov. 18. The team will be working day and night shifts and looking for drunken and aggressive drivers and drivers

35 suspected drunk drivers arrested in weekend patrol

Pierce and Kitsap county law enforcement officers arrested 35 suspected drunk drivers during a joint emphasis patrol last week.

Of the arrests, 26 occurred in Pierce County and nine in Kitsap. In addition, the more than 50 officers involved in Saturday night’s Bridge-to-Bridge patrol stopped 439 vehicles, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI Task Force.

Officers will be back out in force Saturday night for another emphasis patrol, the task force reported. They”ll be concentrating on south Pierce County roads where a high number of impaired drivers have been involved in serious-injury and fatal crashes.
