Citizens help put out brush fire south of Bonney Lake

Firefighters were called to a brush fire south of Bonney Lake this evening, but seven citizens shoveling dirt on the blaze had it mostly under control when they arrived.

“They had most of it knocked down by the time we got there,” East Pierce Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jay Adams said.

A Washington State Patrol plane saw the fire and called East Pierce at 5:19 p.m.

The blaze spread to about 1/8 acre by the 13000 block of 198th Avenue East and 128th Street East.

No one was injured.

UPDATED: Water rescue in progress at Lake Tapps

UPDATE: The swimmer was located and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died about 9:30 p.m., Troyer said. He is from Kent.

INITIAL POST: Divers are searching for a 19-year-old man who went underwater at Lake Tapps about 5:20 p.m., Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The man was last seen about 30 feet off shore, Troyer said.

The water rescue is in progress at the north end of the lake at Pierce County Park, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Valley Regional Fire Authority are involved, according to East Pierce.

Prairie Ridge mobile home fire put out

Flames were visible from the bedroom of a mobile home about 3 p.m. today in the 12500 block of 223rd Avenue East, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters arrived on scene at the Prairie Ridge address and the blaze was knocked down. They searched the area and nothing was found.

No further details were immediately available.

Blaze destroys abandoned mobile home in Edgewood

Fire investigators are looking into what sparked an early morning blaze that destroyed a mobile home in Edgewood.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were notified of a house fire on 106th Avenue East just before 2 a.m. today, Assistant Chief Russ McCallion said.

By the time firefighters arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames. The roof and walls had collapsed, McCallion said.

The home, which had some additions built onto it, has reportedly been abandoned for the past two years.

Woman injured in early morning fire near Buckley

A woman was critically injured early today when a fire burned through her Buckley-area mobile home, East Pierce Fire & Rescue reported.

The woman, described as in her late 50s, has been taken to Harborview Medical Center with critical but stable burn injuries, said Dina Sutherland, spokeswoman for the fire district.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies and East Pierce fire crews were initially called to the woman’s home in the 24100 block of 122nd Street East about 2:30 a.m. for a potential suicide attempt.

Fire crews arrived in two minutes and found the flames, Sutherland said.
