Thieves steal copper wire from Pierce County substation; reward offered

For the third time in two months, thieves have broken into a Frederickson-area substation and ripped out copper wire.

Bonneville Power Administration crews discovered the theft Monday at the substation, 4320 180th St. E. Investigators believe that sometime between Thursday and Monday, thieves cut a hole in the perimeter fence and stole 20 feet of copper wire, according to a press release from BPA.

The theft caused about $1,500 damage. The previous two thefts caused about $5,000 damage.

BPA is offering up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the thieves.

Thieves snatch copper wire from Kent-area substation

The Bonneville Power Administration reports that copper wire was stolen from its Kent-area substation sometime last week.

Now, the utility is offering up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

A worker discovered that thieves had cut a hole in the fence at the Covington Substation, 28401 Covington Way Southeast, and cut copper wire from the equipment late last week, according to a press release. BPA and law enforcement are now investigating.

The thieves caused $5,000 in damage, the utility reports.
