Arraignment set for Tacoma police officer accused in child sex case

An arraignment has been scheduled for the Tacoma police officer charged Wednesday with molesting a female relative.

John H. Parkes, 45, has been summons to appear in Pierce County Superior Court the morning of June 9 for his arraignment.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged the veteran Tacoma patrol officer with three counts of first-degree child molestation, alleging he sexually contacted a female relative between 1999 and 2003.

Tacoma police officer charged with child molestation

Pierce County prosecutors on Wednesday accused a Tacoma police officer of molesting a young female relative several years ago.

John H. Parkes, 45, was charged with three counts of first-degree child molestation. He will be summons to appear in Pierce County Superior Court for arraignment. No date has been set.

He could not be reached for comment Wednesday. A lawyer for him also could not be reached.

Parkes, a patrol officer, has been with the department since November 1994. He has been on paid administrative leave from the police department since earlier this year. The action was taken after the

Lake Tapps pilot sentenced to 25 years for sex crimes case

Weldon Marc Gilbert was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison Monday afternoon.

The wealthy Lake Tapps pilot pleaded guilty in April to 35 child-sex charges in federal court.

U.S. District Court Judge Benjamin Settle gave Gilbert the maximum sentence, and said he left “human wreckage” in his wake.

“There are no adequate words to describe the horrors the victims had to suffer,” Settle said during the sentencing.

At the hearing, Gilbert apologized for his actions.

“I never meant to hurt anyone,” he said. “And yet I did, over and over again.”
