Residents in south Pierce County are invited to a community meeting Tuesday night after a sharp increase in burglaries.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Baydo Chevrolet, 9201 350th St. S., in McKenna. Representatives of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office have been invited to address public safety concerns of community members, according to a press release. Pierce County Councilman Dick Muri will moderate the town hall.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man early today after he allegedly prowled South Hill homes, rammed a patrol car and jumped over fences in an attempt to escape officers.

The 25-year-old man was bitten by a police dog and suffered a leg injury, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. He’s been booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, felony eluding and residential burglary.

Deputies were called just after 2 a.m. today. Callers reported that a man was prowling cars and stealing in the Sunrise development area off South Hill, Troyer said.

Tacoma police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday night after responding to a burglary alarm at Faith Evangelical Seminary in the North End.

Officers were notified of the alarm at the seminary, 3504 N. Pearl St., shortly before 11:30 p.m. When they arrived, they noticed that someone had forced entry into the building, police reported.

Officers spotted the suspected burglar come out of a window. The suspect was not compliant with officers demands and he was taken after he was shocked with a stun gun, officers reported.

Lakewood police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a burglar who tried and tried to pry a large flat-screen TV out of a Tillicum restaurant, then stolen soda and energy drinks instead.

A surveillance camera captured the Jan. 25 burglary at the Wok In Wok Out in the 15200 block of Union Avenue Southwest.

The burglary occurred about 4:45 a.m. The suspect smashed out the large front window and crawled inside, police reported.

Burglars continue to target residents living in ground-floor apartments in Puyallup.

The ongoing problem has prompted the Puyallup Police Department to issue another crime alert and set up a meeting for apartment managers and residents.

The department’s Problem-Oriented Policing unit will host the meeting Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. to discuss the problem and offer prevention tips. The meeting will be held in room No. 503 at Puyallup City Hall, 333 S. Meridian.

Gig Harbor police have arrested seven people in connection with a burglary ring that is suspected of victimizing  more than 20 people in Thurston and Pierce counties, the police department announced Tuesday.

Investigators have recovered four stolen rental trucks, one stolen gun and more than $80,000 worth of stolen property, a press release stated.

The investigation continues. Detectives are looking into identity theft reports from more than 60 people in the Gig Harbor area.

The investigation began during the week before Christmas when an organized ring of burglars hit several homes in the Gig Harbor and University Place.

A woman scared off an intruder in her Hilltop home early today after she yelled and fired a shot from her gun, Tacoma police reported.

The intruder wasn’t injured and ran out the back door. He has not been located, Tacoma police reported.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 2100 block of South L Street. The woman was in her living room when she heard noises at the back door, police reported.

Puyallup police want residents living along the Puyallup River to be aware of a recent string of burglaries.

Burglars have hit the apartment complexes located on the south side of the river, from North Meridian to the city limits on East Main Avenue, according to a crime alert sent out today from the city’s police department.

So far this month, seven burglaries have been reported. They’ve taken place at ground-floor apartments next to the Riverwalk Trail. The incidents have been spread out throughout the day and into the evening.
