Teenager attacked outside Boys and Girls Club tells police assault may be gang retaliation

A 16-year-old boy and his girlfriend were attacked in the Boys and Girls Club parking lot at 1620 S. 17th St. this morning, in what the male victim told police might have been gang retaliation.

The couple were approached by five men and two women about 1 a.m., who began punching and kicking the victims for no apparent reason, Tacoma police say.

Police said the attackers also broke off a crossing guard and hit the 16-year-old, who suffered a cut over his eye. His 14-year-old girlfriend had mild bruising from the assault.
