UPDATED: Tacoma police bomb experts investigating lunch box outside downtown Bank of America

UPDATE as of 4:28 p.m. Police rendered the device safe, spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. “It was what appeared to be a lunch bucket,” she added. Traffic in the area has been reopened.

INITIAL POST: Tacoma police officers are blocking off the area around the Bank of America downtown, and the department’s bomb experts are on their way to investigate a black nylon lunchbox found in front of an automatic teller machine by bank employees,  police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The box was found about 2:10 p.m., and employees called police about 30 minutes later when no one claimed it.

Auburn police deactivate bomb woman found in gas hatch of her vehicle

A woman found an explosive device in the gas hatch of her vehicle this afternoon when she stopped to get fuel at Fred Meyer in Auburn, police said.

Auburn police responded about 2:30 p.m. to the parking lot at 8th Street Northeast and Auburn Way North, Commander Mike Hirman said.

The woman, from Auburn, called when she saw what looked like a fuse and tape sticking out of the hatch.

Hirman said the Federal Way bomb squad deactivated the device and police finished securing the scene just before 5 p.m.
