Man with BB gun arrested at Frederickson Elementary School

Staff became concerned when a man walked into Frederickson Elementary School today and asked to make a phone call, spokeswoman Krista Carlson said.

“When they tried to tell him: ‘No, our phones are not for public use,’ the way he presented himself just didn’t sit well with our staff,” she said.

They called a School Resource Officer, who arrested the man, and in the process found a BB gun on his person, Carlson said.

UPDATE: Alleged ‘hit list’ had been joke, investigation at Spanaway school completed

An alleged “hit list” that brought extra patrols to a Spanaway high school this morning turned out to be a joke among friends.

A student brought up the rumored list during a meeting among Spanaway Lake High School parents and officials Thursday night. The list was raised the same day that a high school student was charged with stabbing a fellow student in the band room.

“Parents heard about it and kids were talking about it,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Lynelle Anderson said Friday.

UPDATED: One injured, one arrested after fight at Spanaway-area school

One student was injured and another arrested after a stabbing at a Spanaway-area junior high school this morning, authorities reported.

An 18-year-old student apparently was stabbed in the head, ear and neck at Liberty Junior High, 7319 Eustis Hunt Road E., Pierce County sheriff’s spokeswoman Lynelle Anderson said. He was transported to a local hospital and was reportedly in stable condition.

More than 1,000 students from Spanaway Lake High School are attending classes at the junior high while their school is being renovated.

Deputies clear Spanaway school after calls reporting a possible threat

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies and administrators checked out Spanaway Junior High School last night after officials learned of a threat at the school.

A K-9 team found nothing suspicious and school at 15707 B St. E. is in session and on a regular schedule today, Bethel School District spokeswoman Krista Carlson said this morning.

“There was no viable threat,” she said.

The Sheriff’s Department received some phone calls Tuesday about a possible threat at the school. Administrators and a K-9 team met at the building and investigated further. The activity wrapped up just after 9 p.m.

UPDATED: Teen arrested after deputies find loaded gun at Spanaway JHS

A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly brought a loaded gun to Spanaway Junior High School, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The boy had not pointed the weapon at anyone and no one was injured in the incident, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Deputies were called to the school, 15701 B St. E.,  about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Several  students anonymously reported that the boy had a gun on school grounds.

Deputies confiscated the 9 mm handgun, which had been hidden on the boy, and took the teen into custody, Troyer said.
