Man accused in Tacoma bank heist faces federal charges

A 39-year-old man accused of robbing a Tacoma bank branch last month is going to be tried in federal court.

Robert Revels III was originally charged in Pierce County Superior Court. He made his first appearance in U.S. District Court in Tacoma on Thursday.

Federal prosecutors have charged him with armed bank robbery, being armed during the commission of a violent felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm, a press release from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office stated. If convicted of all charges, Revels faces a minimum of 40 years in federal prison.

Man charged in two Spanaway-area bank robberies

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 52-year-old man in connection with two bank robberies last month in the Spanaway area.

James Wesley Twiggs was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of threatening to bomb or injure property. He’s being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $ 1 million bail.

Prosecutors allege Twiggs was responsible for bank robberies on March 24 and March 31.

UPDATED: Prosecutors charge suspected bank robber who was shot by TPD

The suspected bank robber who was shot by three Tacoma police officers during a confrontation earlier this month was charged Wednesday in the heist.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Sean S. Sawyer, 43, with one count of first-degree robbery. Sawyer, who’d ben injured in the shooting, was released from the hospital and booked into Pierce COunty Jail on Tuesday night. He was expected to be arraigned on the charge Wednesday afternoon.

The bank robbery and officer-involved shooting were seven minutes apart the morning of March 15.

Federal Way wants to ID this bank robber

Federal Way police are trying to identify a man suspected of robbing a bank branch Thursday afternoon. The department released surveillance images of the suspect today in hopes of identifying him.

The man went into the Bank of America branch at 32011 Pacific Highway S. about 3:20 p.m. Thursday and handed a teller a note that demanded money, police reported. The bandit took an undisclosed amount of cash, his robbery note and left. He did not show a weapon or imply that he had one.

Deputies searching for man who robbed Spanaway bank

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who robbed a Spanaway bank branch Wednesday morning.

The man entered Heritage Bank, 15211 Pacific Ave. S., about 9:15 a.m. He presented a teller with a note that demanded cash and a paper bag, deputies reported.

The robber told the teller to hurry up. He grabbed the cash and walked out of the bank, deputies reported.

He went across the street. A silver minivan pulled up and the robber got inside. The minivan was last seen going north on Pacific Avenue, deputies reported.

UPDATED: Officers arrest Gig Harbor bank robbery suspect, find his 3-year-old son safe

UPDATED INFORMATION:

Gig Harbor police have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank while leaving his 2-year-old son in a truck.

The boy was unharmed and released to family members, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The heist occurred about 11:25 a.m. Friday at the Umpqua Bank, 3123 56th St. Ct. N.W. The bandit presented a note to a teller that implied he had a weapon and demanded cash, Troyer said.

UPDATED: Bank robbery, then shots fired in Tacoma

THE LATEST:

Tacoma police shot and wounded a bank robbery suspect this morning after a confrontation on the Hilltop.

Paramedics have taken the suspect to a local hospital for treatment, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The suspect’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

“He’s expected to recover,” Fulghum said.

Robbery charges filed in Wednesday’s takeover-style heist at South End bank

Pierce County prosecutors filed charges today against a 39-year-old man accused of committing a takeover-style robbery at a South End bank branch Wednesday.
