Pierce County sheriff’s detectives are working to identify a man who claimed he had a bomb while he robbed a Spanaway bank branch Monday afternoon.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers released surveillance images of the robber today and announced a reward in the quest to identify him.

The man walked into the Twin Star Credit Union, 13505 Pacific Ave. S., about 3:15 p.m. Monday. He carried a black briefcase and went up to a counter, deputies reported.

Lakewood police were searching for three men who robbed a bank in the Oakbrook area this morning.

Two of the men went into the Key Bank, 8017 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., shortly after 9:15 a.m. while a third waited outside and served as a lookout. One of the suspects wielded a gun during the robbery, police reported.

The suspects demanded cash. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the men left the bank, police reported.

Law enforcement officers have arrested a 47-year-old man accused in two bank robberies in Tacoma and Puyallup in recent months.

Pierce County prosecutors had previously charged Omaha Tony Tufono with two counts of first-degree robbery. A warrant had been issued for his arrest in June.

Tufono had been jailed in King County since late January in connection with a Federal Way bank robbery. He was convicted and sentenced to 12 months in jail. He was released Tuesday, booked into Pierce County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on the charges today.

Tacoma police have released new surveillance images of a man who robbed a South End bank last week in hopes that someone recognizes his hooded sweatshirt.

The zippered, long-sleeved sweatshirt features images of Jimi Hendrix, a peace symbol and guitar. The sweatshirt is unique and investigators hope someone recognizes it.

The robber, wearing a black wig, walked into the U.S. Bank at 7020 Pacific Ave. just after 10 a.m. Friday. He walked up to a teller and handed over a note that demanded cash and implied he had a weapon, Tacoma police reported.

Tacoma police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a South End bank this morning while wearing a wig.

The U.S. Bank, 7020 Pacific Ave., was robbed about 10: 05 a.m. The suspect walked up to a teller and handed over a note that demanded cash and implied he had a weapon, according to police scanner chatter.

The robber took cash and walked back out of the bank.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 56-year-old man with robbing a Gig Harbor bank earlier this week.

One count of first-degree robbery was filed against Gary Lee King on Tuesday. He was arraigned Tuesday morning and remains in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Tacoma police were searching for a woman who robbed a bank branch Tuesday afternoon.

The woman walked into the Bank of America, 3408 S. 23rd St., just before 2:30 p.m. As she talked on a cellphone, she presented the teller with a note that demanded cash, police reported.

She got an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank on foot. Officers set up containment and a police dog tried to track the bandit. She was not found.

A suspected bank robber who was shot in March by three Tacoma police officers has pleaded guilty to two heists.

Sean D. Sawyer, 43, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of first-degree robbery. He was reportedly sentenced to 14 years, three months in prison during a hearing this morning.

Prosecutors had charged Sawyer with robbing the University Place Key Bank at 2424 Mildred St. on Feb. 16 and the Columbia Bank, 1959 S. Union Ave., in Tacoma on March 15.
