WHAT IS THAT: Police activity on South Melrose Street in Tacoma

Tacoma police were searching for two men after an assault this morning at a home in the 3000 block of South Melrose Street.

A police dog is conducting a track for the suspects, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. Nearby Franklin Elementary School was placed briefly into a precautionary lockdown as police searched for the suspects. The lockdown is now over.

According to preliminary information, the suspects went to the home shortly after 9 a.m. One had a baseball bat, Fulghum said.

Father arrested on suspicion of assaulting teenage daughter

Tacoma police arrested a 50-year-old father Monday on suspicion of punching his teenage daughter in the throat.

The 15-year-old girl suffered serious injuries from the punch, Tacoma police reported.

Tacoma police officers were called to the family’s home in the 1600 block of East Fairbanks Street on Monday.

While investigating the assault, officers discovered that the four children in the home had not eaten in a day, police reported. The children were placed with CPS and the father taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Gig Harbor man beaten during attack in his apartment

A 45-year-old man was seriously injured Sunday morning during a fight inside a Gig Harbor apartment.

The man suffered serious facial lacerations and fractured facial bones, Gig Harbor police reported. He was initially treated at St. Anthony Hospital, then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He has since been released.

Gig Harbor police have booked a 30-year-old Key Peninsula resident into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, second-degree robbery and attempted second-degree murder in connection with the attack.

UPDATED: Man arrested after fight last month left another man critically injured

Tacoma police have arrested a 34-year-old man wanted in connection with a fight that left a 40-year-old man with serious, life threatening injuries the night before Thanksgiving.

Prosecutors charged David Leroy Clear on Nov. 30 with first-degree assault and a warrant had been issued for his arrest. He had made arrangements to turn himself into detectives that day, then failed to show up. Detectives asked that an arrest warrant then been issued.

Man seriously injured in South End fight; no arrest reported

Tacoma police are searching for a man who critically injured another man during a fight Wednesday night at a South End parking lot.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, was being treated at Tacoma General Hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said today.

The fight occurred about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of a grocery store at South 38th and M streets.

It appears the victim and suspect know each other. They were having a conversation, which escalated into an argument, then a fight, Fulghum said.

Lakewood police arrested six in assault on fellow magazine salesmen

Lakewood police have arrested six men suspected of assaulting two coworkers who were trying to break away from a magazine subscription-selling operation Monday night.

The victims, ages 27 and 30, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, Lakewood police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said. The extent of their injuries was not known.

The six arrested men were booked into Pierce County Jail this morning on first-degree assault and other charges. The men range in age from 21 to 40, Hoffman said.

Man arrested in attack on mother-in-law, Olympia police report

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of seriously injuring his mother-in-law Wednesday night in Olympia.

Olympia police were called to the 3700 block of Ensign Road Northeast just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. A neighbor told officers that a woman was screaming for help, an Olympia police press release states.

Officers found the 61-year-old woman bleeding from multiple stab wounds and other blunt-force trauma on her face and head. She was able to tell the officer the first name of the person believed to be responsible for the attack.

Paramedics took the woman to St. Peter Hospital for treatment.
