Police seek beer bandits

Tacoma police are searching for a pair of suspects in a series of convenience-store robberies.

The thief typically sought money from the cash register; more often, he took beer, cigarettes, lighters and cheap cigars.

The six incidents took place between Oct. 25 and Nov. 6. The robberies followed the same pattern: a man wearing a hoodie and a bandanna over his face, armed with a handgun. Sometimes the man brought an accomplice.

Police release photos of man suspected in Tacoma carjacking, two robberies

Tacoma police released surveillance images this afternoon of a man suspected of carjacking a woman and dropping her off at Point Defiance Park, then robbing two stores gunpoint Tuesday.

Detectives are hoping someone recognizes the man and calls police. Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the man’s arrest and charges filed in the cases.

UPDATED: Man robs South End gas station at gunpoint

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed a South End gas station at gunpoint Tuesday night.

The robbery occurred just before 9:20 p.m. at the 76 gas station at 8235 S. Hosmer St.

The man entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint, police reported. The man then left on foot in an unknown direction.

A police dog searched but did not find the robber.

The robber was described as black, about 25 years old and  5 feet 1 to 5 feet 3 with a heavy build. He wore black beanie, black jacket and black, baggy jeans.

Tacoma police searching for man who robbed West End grocery store

Tacoma police are searching for a man who robbed a West End grocery store clerk at gunpoint this afternoon.

The robbery occurred inside the Safeway at 2637 N. Pearl St. about 12:45 p.m., police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. A man wielding a black handgun robbed the clerk, taking cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber left the store. He’s described as black, in his 20s and about 5 feet 8 with a medium to heavy build, Fulghum said. He wore a black jacket, black shirt and dark-colored jeans.

East Side convenience store robbed at gunpoint

Tacoma police were searching for a man who robbed an East Side convenience store at gunpoint this morning.

The man went into the 7-Eleven at 3848 McKinely Ave. about 11:15 a.m. He wore a black ski mask and had a handgun, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash and left the store. A police dog searched the area but didn’t find him.

The man was described as black, about 25 years old and 5 feet 10 with a thin build, Fulghum said.

One in custody after South End drugstore robbed

Tacoma police arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly robbed a South End drugstore.

The suspect went into the Rite Aid, 7041 Pacific Ave., implied he had a gun and demanded prescription drugs, police reported. The man put several items into a plastic bag and left the store.

Officers tracked down the suspect at a home in the 1600 block of East Fairbanks Street. He was taken into custody, police reported.

Officers booked the man into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

Officers were searching for a second person who had fled the East Fairbanks home.

Man charged with robbing Lakewood mini-mart on Friday

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old man with first-degree robbery, alleging he held up a Lakewood grocery store clerk at gunpoint Friday.

Wade E. Barry was arraigned Monday and was being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $60,000.

Charging documents provide the following information:

A man entered the Olympic Grocery, 12928 Bridgeport Way S.W., on Friday night with what witnesses believed was a gun. The robber put the weapon to a clerk’s head and emptied the cash register.

Tacoma police arrest man suspected in recent convenience store robberies

Tacoma police have arrested a man suspected in at least two convenience store robberies in recent days in the city.

Officers arrested the 25-year-old man shortly after 1:15 p.m. today in the area of Tyler and Center streets, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Investigators believe the man robbed the Stop In Grocery, 3908 Sixth Ave., on Monday night and Union Corner Grocery, 4501 S. Union Ave., Tuesday afternoon. In both incidents, the robber was armed with a handgun.

Investigators believe the man also might be responsible for robberies, Fulghum said.
