No charges today in deadly SR 162 crash

No charges were filed today against a man suspected of hitting and killing a 65-year-old woman Thursday morning in a head-on crash on State Route 162.

Prosecutors will wait for the results of the full investigation – including the analysis of a blood draw – before deciding whether to file charges against the 30-year-old man, deputy prosecutor Mark Sanchez said this afternoon. (This is fairly routine. Prosecutors generally like to see the full reports and have the toxicology information before filing charges.)

UPDATED: Woman killed in crash near Sumner

A 65-year-old woman was killed  this morning when another car crossed into oncoming traffic and struck her car near Sumner, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The woman suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for treatment, trooper Brandy Kessler said. She died at the hospital.

The woman was identified as Maria C. Davila of Lake Tapps.

Meanwhile, the other driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving with a suspended or revoked license. The 30-year-old man sustained minor injuries in the crash and was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

ALL CLEAR: Injury accident blocks Pioneer Way near Sumner

A serious-injury crash is blocking both directions of State Route 162, otherwise known as Pioneer Way, south of Sumner.

The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. at 96th Street East, the state DOT reports.

A detour route has been set up.

Traffic officials and troopers are on the scene.

UPDATE: Trooper Brandy Kessler reports one female has been transported to the hospital and was unconscious.

The crash was head on. It might have involved drugs.
