Storm prompts winter storm, avalanche warnings in Paradise

An incoming storm has prompted a winter storm warning and avalanche warning for several mountain areas, including Paradise.

Forecasters say 9 to 13 inches of snow could fall at Paradise on Thursday, with up to another 7 inches possible on Friday. The snow will continue through the weekend.

The winter storm warning is being issued due to heavy snow. It is in effect from 7 p.m. tonight until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Snow levels should drop to 3,500 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

West Valley Highway to stay closed as storms bring more rain

West Valley Highway south of 24th Street in Sumner will remain closed today and probably into next week due to a mudslide blocking the road and the forecast for more  rain.

City of Sumner spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said today that the blockage from a slide Thursday was twice as high as the side the day before.

A crew hired by the property owner whose slope slid away was clearing the road this morning, she said, adding that opening the  road is problematic with the ongoing rain.

The National Weather Service is forecasting periods of locally heavy rain with mild temperatures
