Elderly woman’s body found washed ashore on Vashon Island beach

UPDATED 6:23 p.m.

Hikers walking on a Vashon Island beach shortly after noon Monday discovered the body of an elderly woman, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.

“It looks like she washed ashore,” Sgt. Cindi West said Monday. “Obviously, it’s suspicious anytime someone winds up dead on a beach, but we don’t know how she got there.”

The body was found on Reddings Beach, on the island’s west side and just north of Paradise Cove. While detectives try to determine the woman’s identity, West said the King County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy on

Man dies after falling into the Sound near ferry terminal

A 25-year-old man has died at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center this morning despite efforts to revive him after he fell into Puget Sound from a raft last night off West Seattle.

The man and several companions were ferrying supplies from the beach near Lincoln Park in three rafts when the man fell overboard. His friends called 911 and began searching for him about 9:30 p.m. Divers found his body about 25 feet offshore.

Missing Vashon man found alive

An 84-year-old man who was last seen Wednesday on Vashon Island was found alive Saturday afternoon a couple of miles from his home.

Jack Randles, who has Alzheimer’s disease, was found around 2:30 p.m. when homeowners returned to their house in the Point Robinson area of the island and discovered Randles sleeping in a bed, the King County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Randles had cuts and scrapes on his face, legs and knees but otherwise appeared to be in good health,” Cindi West of the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He was taken to Highline Hospital for treatment

Man drowns near Vashon Island

The King County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent drowning of a man in Quartermaster Harbor, on the southeast side of Vashon Island.

According to Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, the man was in his mid-60’s and lived on his 30-foot sailboat, which was moored to a buoy in the harbor.

A friend of the victim came down to visit him about 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Urquhart said.

The friend said he found the man tangled in the rope of his inflatable boat near the boat launch which is near the marina.
