Bumblebee throws tree branch onto I-5 from overpass

Initial reports to troopers about 4 p.m. of someone in a bumblebee costume on the Interstate 5 overpass at South 48th Street made more sense when dispatchers explained a small child had thrown a tree branch onto the freeway.

No one was hurt, and a trooper is en route to remove the branch, according to the State Patrol.


Police: Lanes of River Road reopen after crash caused by drunken driver

UPDATE as of 6:53 p.m. All lanes have been cleared, according to police.

INITIAL POST: Puyallup police said a three-car crash caused by a drunken driver has caused minor injuries to others and closed two of three lanes of eastbound River Road.

Traffic is being rerouted to Fourth Street Northwest until the roadway is cleared, and drivers are asked to avoid the area, according to police.

Police said about 6 p.m. that the crash had happened in the 300 block of River Road.

Further details were not immediately available.


CLEARED: Police blocking SR 509 near I-705

UPDATE as of 9 p.m. All lanes are cleared, according to the state. Trooper Guy Gill said it appeared someone was trying to jump from the Pacific Avenue Bridge earlier, but that the suspect is now safe and in custody.

INITIAL POST: Police are blocking both directions of state Route 509 near Interstate 705, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The incident started about 8 p.m.

The State Patrol and Tacoma police are at the scene.

State Patrol: Buckley woman injured when she hits light pole on state Route 164 in Auburn

A 74-year-old Buckley woman was injured this morning when her vehicle drifted to the shoulder of state Route 164 in Auburn and knocked over a light pole that blocked at least part of the road for nine hours, according to the State Patrol.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.

Troopers said the crash happened about 8 a.m. on westbound state Route 164 at 156th Avenue Northeast.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.


Car-van crash injures 9 in Kent, closes South 277th Street at South Star Lake Road

Emergency crews are at the scene of a car-van crash  at South 277th Street and South Star Lake Road.

The crash about 5:45 p.m. sent 9 people to the hospital, one of whom is in serious condition, according to Kent Fire. The eight others were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, Capt. Kyle Ohashi said. One of those eight is an infant, he said.

Ohashi said the King County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what caused the crash between the sedan carrying two people and the van carrying a church group. Both occupants of the sedan

Police: 62nd Avenue East closed in Fife as crews respond to suicide

UPDATE as of 11:50 a.m. Fife police said that about 9:55 a.m. a 911 caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area, with an unresponsive male inside and a note taped to the window that said: “Do not open. Hydrogen Sulfide. Call 911.”

Emergency crews blocked off the area and entered the vehicle. They found the man was deceased, according to Fife police.

The potential area of exposure is minimal, officers said. 62nd Avenue East is still closed.

CLEARED: Crash blocking westbound SR 16 on ramp, right lane at Burnham Drive Northwest

UPDATE as of 10:55 p.m. All lanes are clear, according to the State Patrol.

INITIAL POST: An overturned trailer is blocking the on ramp and right lane of westbound state Route 16 at Burnham Drive Northwest, according to the State Patrol.

No one was hurt in the one-car crash.

Crews are working to clear the roadway.

Arrest involving FBI on northbound I-5 this afternoon was for DOC warrant

The FBI and other agencies arrested a 28-year-old on northbound Interstate 5 near exit 122 about 1:30 p.m. today who had an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.

KIRO-TV reported that the arrest caused backups on the freeway.

The arrest was a joint effort between the federal agency, the state DOC and Seattle police, according to the FBI.

The man had failed to check in with his Community Corrections Officer, and was considered at high risk to commit a violent crime, according to the DOC. He had been sentenced to 12 months of supervision for a drug-related conviction, according to the
