Three injured in crash on SR 410

Three people were injured this morning in a three-vehicle crash between Bonney Lake and Buckley that shut state Route 410 down for more than an hour, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

One of the drivers slowed down to turn left onto 262nd Avenue East and was struck from a vehicle behind, which pushed it into the path of an eastbound vehicle in the 26300 block of SR 410.

Firefighters had to extricate one of the drivers.

The accident happened about 8 a.m., shutting down both directions of SR 410. Lanes reopened shortly before 10 a.m.

Saturday collision sends two to hospital

Two people were taken to the hospital Saturday following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South 15th Street and South State Street in Tacoma.

Tacoma Fire Department Battalion Chief David McRoberts said the driver of one of the cars was injured after being ejected from the vehicle. And a man mowing his lawn near the intersection was also injured, although he wasn’t sure what struck him, McRoberts said.

The driver of the second car was uninjured, he added.

The accident was reported at 11:41 a.m. Saturday. McRoberts said Tacoma police were investigating.

Driver who left injured passenger after car wreck in Point Defiance Park found

Tacoma police said they found the man who crashed his car in Point Defiance Park Monday and fled, leaving behind his seriously injured passenger.

The accident was reported about 7 a.m. on Five Mile Drive near Camp 6. Passersby found a semi-conscious male beside a smashed Honda Civic and called 911.

The passenger gave officers confusing information but did tell them there was someone else in the car. That piece of information led to a day-long search in nearby woods for the second person that included a county airplane and search-and-rescue dogs.

One injured, one possibly missing after car crash at Point Defiance Park

UPDATE as of 1:22 p.m.: Police and searchers are still looking for a second man who could have been inside a Honda Civic that appears to have rolled over on Five Mile Drive in Point Defiance Park this morning.

A man who was found injured outside of the vehicle provided authorities with confusing information about what happened and whether anyone else was inside the car.

Police said since there is a possibility somebody could be injured near the wreckage, they will exhaust all efforts to locate the passenger.

Man dies in rollover crash in Tacoma at East 62nd and McKinley

A man died in a rollover crash that happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday at East 62nd Street and McKinley Avenue East, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

It appeared the crash may have been caused by a medical emergency, she said.

Tacoma Fire Battalion Chief Jim Zuluaga said crews used the jaws of life to remove patients from the wreck, and that three people were taken to the hospital.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner has not yet identified the man.

Motorcyclist killed in Graham crash with car

A man riding his motorcycle in Graham was killed tonight when a car turned in front of him and the two vehicles crashed, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. near 224th Street East and Meridian Avenue East.

Crews performed CPR on the motorcyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Troyer said.

No one else was injured.

Car crashes into pole on South Tacoma Way

Police believe a driver was using his cell phone when he crashed his car into a wooden power pole along South Tacoma Way on Wednesday.

Crews responded about 2 p.m. to the wreck in the 2200 block of South Tacoma Way, and took two of the three occupants of the car to the hospital, Tacoma fire Battalion Chief Jim Zuluaga said. The third occupant’s injuries were not life-threatening, Zuluaga said.

A female passenger was in critical condition at Tacoma General Hospital. It wasn’t clear whether the driver was hospitalized.

Man gets 20 months in prison for causing wreck that killed Graham-Kapowsin soccer player

Editor’s note: A story Tuesday about the fatal car wreck that killed a Graham-Kapowsin soccer player reported that driver Brandon Fair and victim Clara Vallone were friends. While Fair’s lawyer and some letters submitted to the court on his behalf classified the victim and him as friends, Vallone’s father said Tuesday the two barely knew each other.

Maybe Brandon Fair was just trying to be cool. Maybe he just wasn’t thinking.

Whatever the reason, Fair drove recklessly on a clear September day in 2011 and killed Clara Vallone, a 16-year-old soccer player at Graham-Kapowsin High School.
