Son’s ashes taken in truck prowl returned anonymously days later

The truck prowler kept the gemstones, but returned the ashes of the victim’s son.

Both were in the truck that was prowled April 9 at Chambers Bay Golf Course.

A metal briefcase taken had about 3,000 rare Oregon sunstone gemstones, two gold rings with sunstones, thirty silver sunstone rings, a gold sunstone bracelet, an iPhone 4 and a Kindle Fire, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

A green Cabelas suitcase that was taken had the victim’s son’s ashes inside, which were anonymously mailed to the victim several days after the theft.

Couple pleaded not guilty to stealing $10,000 in drugs from Puyallup hospital

The box next to the man lying on a bench at a Puyallup hospital held a syringe and more than $10,000 worth of stolen drugs.

He told police his girlfriend, who was visiting a family member in the hospital, asked him to hold the drugs.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged the couple with first-degree theft for Monday’s disruption at Good Samaritan Hospital, which allegedly placed half of the fifth floor in lockdown while the theft was investigated.

Commissioner Meagan Foley set the 23-year-old woman’s bail at $15,000 and the 26-year-old boyfriend’s bail at $5,000. They both pleaded not guilty to

Prosecutors: Fircrest cafe employee hid in bathroom during theft

When the woman opening the Fircrest cafe caught a glimpse of the knife-wielding man with a bandana over his face, she locked herself in the bathroom.

Police had to watch surveillance footage to determine what happened Friday when a 29-year-old man allegedly broke into Café Elite about 5 a.m.

It shows the man climbing over a counter into the employee only area, grabbing the woman’s purse and trying to break into a cash register.

He then began kicking in the bathroom door where the female employee was hiding. He allegedly fled after the woman warned him that she’d called 911.

Woman charged with stealing $90,000 from Tacoma animal hospital

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 63-year-old woman with first-degree theft for allegedly stealing more than $90,000 from a Tacoma-based animal hospital.

The woman worked at Portland Avenue Small Animal Hospital, 7418 Portland Ave E, from 1989 until the thefts were discovered in 2011.

When the owner’s daughter did an audit, she found discrepancies between the cash book and the bank deposits so she and her father confronted the woman.

Chainsaw-wielding man breaks into marijuana dispensary in South Hill

When the man working at a medical marijuana dispensary in South Hill saw a chainsaw blade coming through the door, he ran out the back.

Authorities say that’s when a 50-year-old patient stole roughly $2,600 worth of pot from Power Plant Medical Marijuan Dispensary, 10217 123rd St Ct E.

The man was gone by the time Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived. Surveillance footage from the March 23 break-in shows a bearded man enter the business. The dispensary owner allegedly recognized him as a former client.

Two arrested after allegedly stealing mail, sideswiping two Kent police cars

Two men were arrested early this morning after sideswiping two Kent police cars while trying to escape.

A neighbor in the 11800 block of Southeast 204th Street called police about 4:20 a.m. after noticing an unfamiliar car in the area and two men prowling mailboxes.

Officers arrived within minutes and tried to block the car – which was stolen earlier this morning – into the cul de sac. The driver tried to flee, sideswiping two patrol cars and prompting a brief pursuit that ended eight blocks away at the end of a driveway.

Roof-top burglar steals from rare coin store at Tacoma’s Freighthouse Square

In minutes, the thief cut through the ceiling in Freighthouse Square and used a rope to descend into the rare coin shop below and steal a bagful of its merchandise before he fled.

The store surveillance video from Sunday morning shows the unmasked burglar’s climb, as well as his distinct receding hairline and mustache.

The alarm at American Rare Coins & Collectibles, 2501 E. D St., went off about 1:30 a.m. and officers were there minutes later, according to Tacoma police.

No suspect was found.

Owner Raymond Brandt said thousands of dollars in rare coins were stolen.

Pierce County man charged with stealing $12,000 worth of grandma’s jewelry

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old man with stealing more than $12,000 worth of his grandmother’s jewelry and pawning it to fuel his methamphetamine addiction.

The grandson faces one count of first-degree theft and nine counts of first-degree trafficking in stolen property. Prosecutors said he could face more charges because sheriff’s detectives are still trying to track down all of the stolen jewels. He has not been arraigned.
