The fatal shooting of a Sumner man by a Milton police officer has been ruled lawful, the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.

Patrick Don Durnford, 47, was shot Oct. 24 outside him home in the 7000 block of 142nd Avenue East.

According to prosecutors:

Officer Zack Kenyon shot Durnford while responding to the residence as part of the Pierce County Metro SWAT team. The death was determined to be a justifiable homicide.

A 53-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening after police said he barricaded himself inside his mobile home after he allegedly assaulted his wife and destroyed her property.

Police initially got a call about a domestic violence incident at 12:40 p.m. in the 200 block of 27th Avenue Southeast.

The suspect refused to exit the mobile home, indicated he was armed and would not communicate with officers, spokesman Capt. Scott Engle said. Metro SWAT went into the home about 4:30 p.m., at which point the man complied and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

A 46-year-old man shot to death by a SWAT officer after allegedly pointing a gun at police outside his Sumner home has been identified as Patrick Durnford.

Durnford called 911 about 3 p.m. Wednesday and threatened to kill himself before bunking down in his home in the 7000 block of 142^nd Avenue East.

After more than an hour standoff with Metro SWAT, police said Durnford came out of the home and pointed a weapon at officers. The officer, fearing for his life, fired.

UPDATE as of 7:18 p.m. The officer is with the Milton Police Department and has been put on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, per department procedure, Palmer said. After a nearly seven-hour standoff Tuesday night, Fife police and a Tacoma SWAT team arrested a man holed up inside of a hotel.

Fife officers went to La Quinta Inn about 3:40 p.m. to serve the man several state Department of Corrections warrants. It was not immediately known what the warrants were for.

Police heard what they believed was a shotgun being chambered and the man threatening officers.

Tacoma police sent an explosive team and a SWAT team to assist. They eventually used a robot to open the door and the man surrendered about 10 p.m.

The shooting death of a Roy man who deputies said increasingly threatened his neighbors and fired a gun at a sheriff’s department plane was lawful, the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office said today.

Raymond G. LaMadeleine, 50 when he died, was fatally shot in the torso by a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department sharpshooter Jan. 31.

Deputies went to take LaMadeleine into custody at the property he was renting because of his escalating threats, prosecutors said.

INITIAL POST: A Pierce County sheriff’s SWAT team has surrounded a house near Spanaway where a convicted felon wanted for several crimes is believed to be holed up.
