Mom whose car and child were stolen left keys in ignition

Pierce County detectives suspect a thief who stole a car with a child inside near a Puyallup-area day care Tuesday morning may have been lurking outside hoping parents would leave their cars unattended while dropping off their children.

The thief abandoned the 2010 Ford Focus with a 16-month-old child inside on a side street about a dozen blocks from the child care center. The child was unharmed.

Sheriff’s deputies and police from several local jurisdictions had cast a large dragnet at mid-morning Tuesday after they were alerted about the theft. They set up road blocks and cordoned off the neighborhood

Puyallup police recover stolen poodle, SUV

Puyallup police today recovered a Ford Explorer and poodle that were stolen outside the library three weeks ago.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, theft of a pet and possession of a stolen property.

Detectives tracked the alleged thief, vehicle and Jaqson the poodle to a Parkland neighborhood.

The victim was at the library March 21 when she set her keys down on the counter and somebody snatched them up. Her poodle was inside the Ford Explorer when it was taken.

Key Peninsula Food Bank’s van is stolen

The Key Peninsula Food Bank reports that someone stole one of its box vans from a Lakebay parking lot early Tuesday.

The van was taken between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Tuesday. Two people drove into the Key Peninsula Community Service’s parking lot at 17015 Ninth St. Court KPN in a dark-colored, medium-sized sedan, the food bank reported.

The thieves broke the lock on the van’s passenger side door, got inside and drove off. The van was headed north on Key Peninsula Highway. The food bank reports that the van did not cross the Narrows Bridge.

K9 officer finds suspect in Tacoma backyard

Tacoma police arrested a man early this morning after he fled from a parked stolen car on South Junett Street and into the backyard of a nearby house.

An officer spotted a man in the stolen car in the 1300 block of South Junett about 12:30 a.m. The man then fled the car on foot. A K9 unit was called and tracked the man into the backyard of a house in the 3000 block of South 13th Street, where he was found hiding.

The suspect was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where he was treated for injuries
