Kent man arrested in connection with Renton shooting

A 22-year-old Kent man wanted for a shooting in Renton was arrested today after SWAT officers moved in to serve a search warrant at a home where he was hiding.

U.S. Marshals were tipped off that the man, wanted for allegedly shooting at a group of people in the Renton Highlands, was at a nearby home.

Since the man did not respond to officers’ attempts to speak with him, police obtained a search warrant for the house. The man surrendered as SWAT moved in.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and unlawful firearm possession.

Explosive device found near Renton library forces evacuation

Police said a small explosive device left near the library in downtown Renton today forced an evacuation while the device was neutralized.

The suspicious object was found about 12:30 p.m. along Cedar River.

No one was injured and no one has been arrested.

Police and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the incident.

Possible Renton abduction ends in head-on crash on I-5

UPDATE as of 10 p.m.

The Washington State Patrol says the three people injured inside a vehicle today on Interstate 5 include a 45-year-old woman, a 47-year-old Federal Way man and a 20-year-old man. Their relationships remain unknown.

The driver was heading north on I-5 while being pursued by Renton police for a possible abduction when he spun around and began driving the wrong way on the freeway.

Search under way for 74-year-old man missing in Renton

UPDATE at 3:50 p.m.

The Seattle Police Department has found Eugene Skinner, who went missing from his Renton home Saturday. Officers are taking him home.

Renton Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a 74-year-old man who went missing on Saturday.

Eugene Skinner is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 186 pounds. He has white hair, hazel eyes and a thick, white mustache. Renton police say Skinner suffers from severe dementia.

14-year-old boy shot at Renton Transit Center

A 14-year-old boy was shot Saturday night at the Renton Transit Center, and a search is under way for the shooter.

Renton Police received a call at 10:13 p.m. about shots fired at the transit center, 219 Burnett Ave. S., in downtown Renton. The victim was found nearby. Police say he suffered gunshot wounds to both legs, and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

“The suspect was described as a young African-American male, associated with a dark-colored Jeep. Although the exact motive is unknown, this shooting does not appear to be random,” Renton Police said in a news release.

Apartment complex owners agree to settlement in discrimination case

The owners and operators of Summerhill Place Apartments, a 268 apartment complex in Renton, , have agreed to pay $110,000 in damages and civil penalties to settle a lawsuit alleging that the complex had discriminated against African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Indian Americans and families with children in violation of the Fair Housing Act, the Justice Department announced today.

The settlement must still be approved by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
