Local American Red Cross chapter raising funds for Japan quake victims

The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter is raising money to benefit those affected by the earthquake in Japan and ensuing tsunami.

Those who would like to contribute can go to www.rainier-redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

On Saturday, the Fife and Thistle booth at the Celtic Faire in downtown Puyallup will donate 20 percent of all sales on kilts. The fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Area people, agencies reach out to help relief efforts in Japan

South Sound and area residents and agencies are helping with relief efforts in Japan following Friday’s massive earthquake and tsunami.

We will post those efforts as we find out about them:

• A C-17 Globemaster III cargo plane and crew from Joint Base Lewis-McChord helped transport 107.5 tons of search and rescue equipment as well as personnel to Japan over the weekend.
