UPDATE: Man dies after accident on Tacoma Tideflats

A truck driver has died after an accident, apparently while he was making a delivery to Simpson Tacoma Kraft Co. on Portland Avenue.

Simpson Tacoma Kraft has released this statement:

There was an accident yesterday afternoon involving a contractor’s driver making a delivery to the mill.  He was transported to a local hospital and we were informed he passed away.

We are shocked and saddened by this accident and extend our deepest sympathies to the driver’s family, loved ones and colleagues.

Reward offered for help solving postal robbery

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service  is offering up to a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who robbed a truck driver earlier this month at the Silverdale Post Office in Kitsap County.

On Sept. 17 at about 6:30 p.m., a group of persons forcibly robbed a mail transportation driver on the back dock of the post office at 10855 Silverdale Way.

The Postal Inspection Service is leading the investigation.  Anyone with information relating to the investigation is encouraged to call the Seattle Office of the Postal Inspection Service at at 877-876-2455 or Kitsap

Seattle gay bars receive ricin threats

Amid all the chaos of the floodpocalypse, I thought I’d make our readers aware of something that appeared on The Stranger’s blog today.


Eleven gay bars have received threats to poison their customers with the toxin ricin, which is made from castor beans.

State: Yacht brokers must pay sales tax, too

Everett, Wash., May 27, 2008 — An Everett yacht broker was charged today with felony theft of sales tax and filing false state tax returns.


Ronald J. Sperry, 59, is accused of failing to remit nearly $359,000 in sales tax he collected from late 2004 through 2007 on sales of yachts through his businesses, Everett Yacht Sales and Hanan Yachts.


The charges were brought in Snohomish County Superior Court by the Criminal Justice Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office at the request of the Washington State Department of Revenue.

Child drowns at Lewis County campout

This release came in from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office late last night.


On Saturday, May 17, 2008, at about 11:00 a.m., The Lewis County 911 Center received a call of a 21 month-old boy, who had fallen into the river near a campsite off of the Skate Creek Road N., Ashford. The caller advised the child was not breathing and they had initiated CPR.
