UPDATED: Natural gas leak forces evacuation of Lakewood strip mall, day care
UPDATE: Approximately 30 people were evacuated from the building. Puget Sound Energy determined the cause of the leak was the boiler for the water heater. Firefighters turned the building back over to management and cleared the scene at 2:40 pm.
POSTED EARLIER: A natural gas leak late this morning has led to the evacuation of businesses, including a day care, in a strip mall at 10506 Bridgeport Way S.W.
Lakewood Fire Department spokeswoman Hallie McCurdy said Pierce Transit brought over a bus to keep warm the 20 kids evacuated from the day care.
